M.A. Malik, President of the UK chapter of the BNP, has said that a final decision regarding the return of the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman will be made after Eid-ul-Azha. Speaking to reporters, Malik emphasized that the next national election should be held by December and called for a free, fair, and impartial electoral process. He welcomed the recent ban on political activities by the ruling Awami League, stating that there are allegations of massive money laundering involving billions of dollars against the current government, all of which must be investigated. Rezaul Karim, leader of the Islami Andolon, has criticized successive governments—including the current one—for allocating minimal funds to essential sectors like education and healthcare while prioritizing flashy infrastructure projects. “We have shiny roads and bridges, yet our youth have become burdens rather than assets, and access to healthcare remains dire,” he said. He urged the government to revise the development budget, allocating at least 6% of GDP to education to ensure progress in infrastructure, quality, and research.

Members and supporters of the National Consensus Party (NCP) staged a protest in Rangpur after its Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain received an anonymous death threat via postal mail, targeting him and his family. The demonstration began at 5:30 PM in front of Rangpur Press Club, with speakers demanding that the perpetrators be identified and brought to justice. The protest march, organized under the banner of "Anti-Fascist Students and Citizens," concluded at the same venue after parading through the city.

Following discussions with the National Consensus Commission, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher proposed a national referendum to legally validate the 'July Charter' and other key national issues. He said the referendum should encompass both agreed and unresolved matters of national importance. Jamaat also suggested amending current laws to ensure former election commissioners remain accountable post-retirement. While agreeing with the NCC proposals in principle, Jamaat excluded the inclusion of the President and Chief Justice under these provisions. Taher emphasized that no single person should hold absolute power, stating that one cannot simultaneously be Prime Minister and party chief.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch detained 11 Awami League activists during a sudden demonstration in the Gulistan area. Their identities were not immediately confirmed. Last August, the interim government led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus banned all political activities of the ousted Awami League and its affiliate organizations.

Dr. Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, President of the Liberal Democratic Party, met with BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at her residence on Sunday evening. The meeting began at 7:22 PM and lasted for about 45 minutes. Oli’s adviser confirmed that the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, during which Colonel Oli inquired about Khaleda Zia’s health. It is worth noting that he also met her prior to her last trip to London for medical treatment.

Supporters of Ishraq Hossain have announced a blockade of the Dhaka City Hall from 11 AM to 3 PM on Monday, demanding his reinstatement as mayor. The protest was announced on behalf of “Dhakabashi” by Moshior Rahman. Demonstrators were heard chanting slogans such as “One demand, one goal—Asif must resign.” Many protesters demanded the resignation of Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, stating that the city hall gates would remain locked until Ishraq is formally reinstated as mayor.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said the party is placing national interest above partisan perspectives in its approach to political reforms. Referring to a recent attack and arson at a Jamaat office in Pabna's Atgharia area, he expressed concern about the political climate even before election schedules are announced.

“There is already a scramble to control territories. From what we’re seeing, the upcoming election still doesn’t seem set for a fair and healthy process,” said Taher.

He added that Jamaat is engaging with the reform commission from a national interest perspective and urged the government to act more decisively to prevent further political instability.

BNP leader Amir Khasru has warned that the continuous delay in holding elections is pushing the country toward deeper instability. Speaking to reporters, he said the nation is in a state of anxiety. “We removed autocracy with unity, expecting a transition to democratic governance. That expectation remains unmet,” he said. He criticized the interim government for acting like an elected one, making major decisions regarding corridors, ports, and investment deals. “What is the legal authority of this government to make such decisions?” he asked. Khasru also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in handing over the mayoral responsibilities to Ishraq Hossain.

Leaders and activists of the BNP’s student wing, Chhatra Dal, ended their blockade of the Shahbagh intersection after 90 minutes on Sunday. They were protesting the killing of student leader Shahriar Alam Samya and demanding justice. The blockade began around 3:45 PM and was called off at 5:25 PM by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam. Earlier in the day, the group had organized a black-flag march demanding justice for Samya’s murder, increased campus security, and the resignation of the university’s vice chancellor and proctor.

Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gano Adhikar Parishad, warned that if necessary, they would take to the streets to oppose any foreign control over Chattogram Port. “Bangladesh’s economic lifeline must not be handed over under the guise of corridors,” he said. “Before party or ideology, comes the country. There will be no compromise on national interest.” Earlier, the Chief Adviser stated that global port management firms are being invited to develop Chattogram Port to international standards, which could boost the economy and create thousands of jobs.

Supporters of Ishraq Hossain are continuing their protest for the fourth consecutive day, demanding that he be officially appointed Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation. Hundreds have blocked the main entrance of Nagar Bhaban, disrupting all public services. Ishraq stated that a legal case was filed within 30 days of the election and that ruling party leader Taposh tried to interfere with it. “The court was under Awami League control at the time, yet we still won. Speaking against this ruling now is contempt of court,” he said.

Islamic leader Maulana Mamunul Haque has stated that not an inch of Bangladeshi soil will be handed over to foreign powers. “We broke free from Delhi’s dominance, not to become slaves of Washington,” he declared. Mamunul emphasized that Bangladesh’s independence in 2024 represents a stand against foreign hegemony. He also warned against using women's rights as a cover to dishonor women and said all Islamic organizations are uniting to demand genuine rights for women.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan warned that the days of “Awami League-style” elections in Bangladesh are over. “Some people think they can continue conducting elections the way the Awami League did. That will no longer be accepted, InshaAllah,” he said. He also demanded that local government elections be held before parliamentary polls, in line with the roadmap provided by the Yunus-led interim government. “We want a peaceful environment in Bangladesh. Some are trying to disrupt that peace, but we will not be intimidated,” he asserted.
