Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman claimed that after the 2001 elections, he had the opportunity to address the people of Kulaura for the first time in 24 years. He questioned whether he was a war criminal, asserting that despite being only 12.5 years old during the war, attempts were made to charge him with war crimes. He stated that no one had falsely accused him, nor had any witness testified against him, including members of the Hindu community. He revealed that at the time, he was not even a member of Jamaat-e-Islami but was part of another organization, which he hesitates to name now. He lamented the persecution faced under the previous oppressive government, which led to the deaths of 11 senior leaders and the crippling of over 500 people. He recalled that on August 1, their party registration was revoked, and they were banned. However, just four days later, he believes divine justice was served. He declared that they stood alongside students during the July Revolution and emphasized their commitment to building a welfare state in honor of the martyrs.
