BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed his condolences over the death of child Ashia, who was brutally tortured in Magura. In a statement of grief, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The cruelty of some monsters in Magura was inflicted on an innocent child like Ashia, leaving her with deep wounds. She struggled on a hospital bed, fighting for her life, and passed away, leaving us in shame and sorrow. Words cannot express the emotions this incident evokes.” Fakhrul also said, “I pray for the peace of her soul and offer my condolences to the grieving family. May they find the strength to overcome this sorrow. At the same time, I demand exemplary punishment for these perpetrators.”

The demand for the removal of Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has gained traction, with many citing his failure to maintain law and order as a burden on the interim government. Critics argue that he should step down due to his inability to control the worsening security situation. However, several political parties, including members of the interim government, oppose this move, suggesting that a larger conspiracy may be behind the instability. They assert that merely replacing the adviser will not resolve the crisis. Islamist parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, have also expressed opposition to his removal. Political analyst Salahuddin Ahmed suggested that while restructuring the Home Ministry could be considered, removing a single individual would not be a comprehensive solution.

A rural doctor in Pekua, Cox’s Bazar, was allegedly assaulted and robbed of BDT 7.5 lakh by a group led by former upazila student wing leader of the BNP-affiliated Chhatra Dal, Md. Farhad Hossain. The attack reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the lease of Barbakia Bazaar. The victim, Dr. Md. Ilyas, claimed that around 20 individuals, including Chhatra Dal leaders Farhad, Ershad, Manik, and Ziaur Rahman, publicly assaulted him before raiding his pharmacy and looting cash. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media. However, the accused have denied the allegations.

Salahuddin Ahmed has called for the establishment of a strong parliament, stating, “Let us work together to build a powerful legislature where the constitution is adopted based on national consensus. You may refer to this as a new constitution—we have no objection. A constituent assembly is unnecessary; rather, a constitution enacted by a robust parliament can be recognized under any name without issue.”

He further mentioned that extensive reform proposals were submitted to the Constitutional Reform Commission, with a representative from their side actively participating as a commission member. “Along with other political parties, we also presented significant reform proposals to these commissions,” he added. Salahuddin also claimed that during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, the country’s religious scholars faced the highest levels of persecution.

BNP leader Mirza Abbas declared that the people of Bangladesh have shed blood for democracy and voting rights, and no individual or party owns the country. Criticizing opportunistic politicians, he questioned the sacrifices of other parties in the recent movement, stating, “In July-August, 422 BNP leaders and activists were martyred. How many of your party members sacrificed their lives?”

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Mia Golam Parwar alleged that while the government is moving towards elections, a faction is pushing for an immediate vote without reforms. He urged political unity and called for a Quranic-based governance system, claiming that without Islamic law, crime and injustice would continue to rise.

NCP leader Hasanath Abdullah claimed that efforts are underway to bring Awami League back to power in a rebranded form. He warned that any discussions about rehabilitating the party before ensuring accountability would pose a severe threat to national sovereignty. “No ifs or buts—any attempt to reinstate Awami League before justice is served must be opposed,” he stated.

NCP’s Joint Chief Organizer Ataullah announced that the National Citizens’ Committee will be free from extortion, land grabbing, and black market activities. He recalled a conversation with missing NCP leader Nahid Islam before his disappearance, stating, “It was either the Prime Ministership or martyrdom—he chose martyrdom.” He further warned that no law enforcement force in Bangladesh could endanger an NCP member unless they strayed from the path.

In Nangalkot, Comilla, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam allegedly shot and crippled mosque muezzin Maulana Belal Hossain Majumdar and Jamaat activist Belayet Hossain. According to a lawsuit filed against OC Nazrul and 31 others, ruling party leaders pressured Belal over political disagreements. On February 8, 2015, OC Nazrul allegedly abducted them from their homes and shot them in the legs on the Dhaka-Noakhali Highway.

Two leaders of Swechchhasebak Dal in Patuakhali’s Kalapara upazila have been permanently expelled from the party for their alleged involvement in a robbery. The expelled members are Monir Hossain (37), joint convener of the union-level committee, and Maksud Majumdar (39), a member of the upazila committee. The party’s press release stated that they were expelled due to clear violations of organizational principles.

DB police have arrested former Sherpur District Chhatra League General Secretary Nazmul Islam Samrat (38) in connection with six cases, including the deaths of three students during last year’s uprising. Authorities have sought a 10-day remand for questioning.

BNP has appointed former Jessore BNP convenor Nargis Begum as Vice-Chairperson and Executive Committee member Haji Aminur Rashid Yasin as the Chairperson’s Adviser. The appointments were announced in a statement signed by BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

BNP leader Aminul Haque accused elements within state institutions and media of conspiring to destabilize Bangladesh with foreign backing. He warned against allowing the interim government to fail and urged authorities to hold swift elections to restore stability.

Student protesters at Raju Memorial Sculpture have been staging a sit-in for 28 consecutive days, demanding a ban on Awami League and its allied parties. Activities include mass signature campaigns, anti-fascist awareness drives, and community Iftar gatherings. Protesters later joined a Shahbagh demonstration organized by ‘Inquilab Mancha,’ which has called for the arrest of pro-government activist Lucky Akter and justice for the Shapla and Pilkhana massacres.

Jubo League leader Akram Hossain (52), accused in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader and protest martyr Abu Raihan Rahim (29), has been arrested. The incident occurred on August 4 last year during an attack on Dupchanchia police station amid anti-government protests. Rahim, also a member of the Construction Workers’ Union, was shot while attempting to seize a firearm from the police. He succumbed to his injuries on August 9 at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Dhaka.
