In Narayanganj’s Chashara area, a large crowd of students stormed and vandalized the ancestral home of former Awami League MP Shamim Osman. Initially, protesters began demolishing the walls with hammers. As tensions escalated, the house was set on fire before a bulldozer was brought in to level the structure completely. The residence, known as “Baitul Aman,” holds historical significance—it hosted a meeting during the Language Movement on February 29, 1952, and was a focal point for political discussions during the Liberation War. Despite its historical importance, the house was targeted amid ongoing unrest.

On February 6, at around 6 PM, a group of protesting students torched the ancestral home of actress Meher Afroz Shaon in Narundi, near the railway station in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila. The house, owned by Shaon’s father, Mohammad Ali, is a family property. Mohammad Ali had been a candidate hopeful for the Awami League, while Shaon’s mother, Begum Tahura Ali, had served five terms as a reserved seat MP for the party. Shaon herself had sought nomination as well. Eyewitnesses reported that following a protest march, some demonstrators set fire to the house. Firefighters rushed to the scene to control the blaze, but the extent of the damage is yet to be determined.

The National Socialist Party (JASD) has strongly condemned the demolition of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence at 32 Dhanmondi. In a statement issued on February 6, the party expressed that the destruction on February 5 further revealed the actions of anti-independence and pro-Pakistani extremist forces. These forces, who took control of state power, are erasing the symbols and memories of the Liberation War as an act of revenge for their defeat. The statement emphasized that the destruction of buildings, sculptures, and murals related to the independence struggle and the Liberation War cannot erase the historical facts of the atrocities committed by Pakistani invaders, collaborators, and war criminals, including the genocide of 3 million people and the systematic sexual violence of over 200,000 women. The party also called for peace-loving citizens to raise their voices and foster national unity.

At a press conference, the commission claimed that Hasina paid lobbyists to secure honorary doctorates from various institutions, including Tripura University (India), the Catholic University of Brussels (Belgium), and Visva-Bharati University (India). The interim government has condemned the vandalism at Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence in Dhanmondi 32, calling it an unfortunate and unwarranted incident. However, in a statement from the Chief Advisor’s press wing, the government attributed the public outrage to Sheikh Hasina’s provocative remarks from India against the July Uprising. The statement accused Sheikh Hasina of disrespecting the martyrs of the uprising and continuing her rhetoric of oppression, corruption, and violence. It also noted that her remarks have repeatedly wounded public sentiment regarding the July massacre. Furthermore, the government urged India not to allow its territory to be used for destabilizing Bangladesh and called for restrictions on Hasina’s public statements.

The order came following a petition by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Md. Fazlul Haque. Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir argued that substantial financial transactions had been detected in the accused's accounts, with suspicions of attempts to transfer funds elsewhere. The court deemed it necessary to freeze the accounts to prevent any obstruction to the ongoing investigation.

Interim government-appointed diplomat and journalist Mushfiqur Fazal Ansari has stated that the decision of whether fascism or personality worship will persist in Bangladesh lies entirely with the people. In a Facebook post, he questioned how a leader with so much blood on her hands dares to display such arrogance. Referring to the July massacre, he asked whether it is acceptable to show sympathy toward those whose crimes could never be truly atoned for, even with the highest punishment. He further alleged that Hasina's allies are disguised as civil society members, adding that fascism is not only evident in concrete structures but is ingrained within the state's administrative framework. He emphasized that this is his personal opinion.

He emphasized that regional and global dominance must be addressed strategically, stating that Sheikh Hasina and the ruling League are extensions of regional hegemony. He argued that counter-hegemony can only be built through realistic state planning, skilled human resource development both domestically and in the diaspora, and strengthening state institutions. He criticized the focus on destruction and instead called for constructive efforts. Additionally, he blamed regional dominance for the ongoing political turmoil triggered by Hasina’s statements and reactions, urging a more strategic response to the challenges.

The upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for December, as announced by the Chief Adviser, are now facing uncertainty. The election preparations have been stalled due to amendments in the Political Party Registration section of the Representation of the People Order and the Delimitation Act. The Election Commission has no clear idea about the proposed amendments and has received no official instructions regarding them. Additionally, 1,849,326 new voters will be eligible to vote starting January 2, 2026, meaning they will be excluded if elections are held in December. The Chief Election Commissioner stated that election preparations are currently on hold due to ongoing reforms. He added that unless there is clarity on whether the elections will be conducted under amended laws or existing ones, holding them in December would be impossible. The Press Secretary affirmed that the election date would be announced based on national consensus. Earlier, on December 16, the Chief Adviser had indicated that the elections would take place in late December 2025 or early 2026.
