At least eight people, including a woman, were injured in a clash between Awami League and BNP supporters in Nawarkandi, Nawabganj, reportedly stemming from a longstanding political rivalry.
According to injured local resident Md. Jafar, Awami League loyalists had filed a false case a month ago, leading to the arrest of his father and brother. After they were released on bail and returned home on Sunday, one of them went out for a haircut when a group of 15-20 Awami League supporters launched a sudden attack with sharp weapons.

BNP leader Aminul Haque criticized certain advisers in the interim government, comparing their fear of elections to that of dictators.

“We don’t understand why you are so afraid of elections. People and BNP activists have supported you with high expectations,” Haque said. “But every time elections are mentioned, you seem disturbed — hiding behind calls for reform and new excuses.”

He also criticized a certain group for blaming the BNP for every national issue, while asserting that BNP is genuinely working for the welfare of the people. “If the 31-point reform plan is implemented properly, all state institutions can be thoroughly restructured,” he concluded.

The "July Alliance" staged a protest in Shahbagh, calling for national unity and resistance against alleged Indian conspiracies in Bangladesh.

BNP leader Habibur Rahman Habib demanded justice for those responsible for the killings in July and urged unity to overthrow the fascist regime.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Delwar Hossain said, “Despite forming an interim government based on the blood of martyrs, the killers have not been prosecuted.”

Ariful Islam Adib of the NCP claimed that India’s dominance began with the Pilkhana massacre. “Those who align with India will be sent straight across the border by the people,” he warned.

After a series of consultations with the Chief Adviser, political leaders presented a range of proposals.

Former CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim stressed the need for reforms based on public opinion. Revolutionary Workers Party Secretary Saiful Haque warned that the Chief Adviser’s resignation could worsen the current crisis and urged that strategic sectors like ports and corridors be brought under political consensus.

Ganosamhati Andolan's Zonayed Saki described the situation as extremely challenging for governance. AB Party’s Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan Manju demanded elections be held by February 5.

Mufti Rezaul Karim, Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, called for foundational reforms and the announcement of an electoral roadmap. Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gana Adhikar Parishad, urged action against controversial advisers and called for full cooperation from the military and administrative bodies.

The National Unity and Solidarity Council has proposed forming a national government with Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus as President and BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman as Prime Minister. At a press briefing, Council leader Nazimul Haque laid out a detailed power-sharing structure: Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar as Vice President, and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman as Deputy Prime Minister. The proposed cabinet includes only Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers, allocated proportionally: 25% from BNP, 20% from Jamaat, 15% from NCP, 5% from Islami Andolon, 10% designated for prominent individuals, and 25% from other political parties.

Speaking at a roadside rally in Lohagara, Chattogram, NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah declared that the current constitution has been manipulated by the Awami League to institutionalize fascism. “We must reform this Awami-made constitution urgently,” he stated. Abdullah called for a future Bangladesh shaped by a blend of political wisdom from the past and the aspirations of the youth. He warned against sidelining the younger generation and emphasized that the fall of fascism was led by student movements and opposition parties. “The trial of the Awami League must come first,” he concluded, stressing unity in times of national crisis.

At a protest rally and march demanding the arrest of former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque, Barrister Kaiser Kamal said, “I don’t want to talk about the advisory council. What the people of Bangladesh want is an election. When we look at the list of advisors, we feel concerned. One of them contested the 1991 parliamentary election and got only 249 votes. Even he is now an advisor.” He further added, “Those leading now are like an Under-19 team in the political field. They lack the depth and gravity expected in leadership. That’s why people call them Under-19s. I even heard that one of them spoke about the Supreme Court's verdict—someone who once belonged to Chhatra League.” Recalling history, Kamal mentioned, “That reminded me of Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni of Jubo League, who was once summoned for contempt of court in 1973. Interestingly, his son Taposh also faced a contempt case.”

Addressing a street rally in Chattogram’s Number 2 Gate area on Sunday afternoon, Hasnat Abdullah strongly criticized attempts to label the advisers of the movement with political party affiliations. “This is a deliberate effort to undermine their dignity and question the universal nature of our movement,” he said. “We firmly reject such propaganda. These two advisers are not political figures; they represent a people’s movement that transcends party lines.”

He added that a clear message has been delivered to the Chief Adviser, demanding fundamental reforms such as judicial restructuring, a new constitution, elections to the Constituent Assembly and Legislature, and rehabilitation for the families of those injured or martyred in the ongoing movement. “We’ve begun our public dialogue campaign from South Chattogram and will travel across the country to gather public opinion,” he added.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that the party aims to educate tea workers and include them in modern garden management. “We do not discriminate based on religion. We want to build a society based on friendship and equality,” he said. Speaking to tea workers, he assured them of prompt support once called upon. “You are still deprived of your basic rights. If we are elected through public vote, we will ensure you live with dignity and support the development of your children’s talents.” He also mentioned that during a recent meeting with the Chief Adviser, election issues were discussed, with a promise of a historic and credible vote.

Addressing the Chief Adviser, BNP leader Shamsuzzaman Dudu remarked, “Childish sulking doesn’t suit you. You’re 84 years old; this isn’t the time for such ego.” He added, “We’re with you. We never asked you to resign. Why then did you express such dismay after meeting Nahid?” This comes after NCP’s convenor Nahid Islam revealed that the Chief Adviser expressed concerns about continuing in his role. However, Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud later confirmed the Chief Adviser is not resigning.

BNP leader Tarique Rahman reiterated the party’s demand for national elections to be held by December during a meeting with the Chief Adviser. He emphasized that citizens must retain the right to constructively criticize any government—whether elected, interim, or caretaker. “The people are not charity cases of the government. Their legitimate demands must be respected. There’s no room for ego or resentment here,” he said. Tarique also blamed the interim government for economic instability, stating that its last-minute NBR reform has created a deadlock in revenue collection.

A court has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate a case filed against three former Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairmen and one former secretary for allegedly harassing Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman with false corruption charges. The plaintiff, Harunur Rashid, named Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, Habibur Rahman, Abul Hasan Manzur, and former secretary Mokhlesur Rahman as the accused.

BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, “If we announce a street protest tomorrow, Dr. Yunus won’t last 24 hours. But we want him to succeed, because his success would also mean the success of the July-August movement.” Criticizing frequent visits by certain figures to government offices, he added, “Why do they visit the Secretariat and DC offices so often?” Roy also condemned corruption, saying that many corrupt officials from Hasina’s era still remain untouched. “How many have been arrested or tried? The government hasn’t even taken any initiative.”

Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain and employees of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) continued their protest for the 10th consecutive day, demanding that Ishraque be sworn in and formally handed over mayoral responsibilities. All administrative activities of the DSCC remain virtually shut down due to an ongoing strike and sit-in program. Protester Munir Hossain declared, “We will return home only when Ishraque Hossain sits in the mayor's chair. Until then, the movement will continue.” On Sunday, all main entrances to Nagar Bhaban remained locked, paralyzing operations.

Speaking at a public rally in Banshkhali, NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah accused both domestic and foreign elements of conspiring to discredit the interim government. He warned those within the secretariat allegedly involved in the plot not to consider themselves irreplaceable, stating that the people will find alternatives if needed. Abdullah added that the exiled regime would not have fled if it were confident about returning, and called on journalists to uphold pro-Bangladesh journalism against hegemonic forces.
