Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairperson of the BNP, has extended both legal and financial assistance to the family of two six-year-old twin girls who were raped in Kabirhat, Noakhali.
On March 25, while playing near their home, one of the twins was assaulted by a 16-year-old local boy named Farid in an abandoned tin-shed house. He was caught by locals and handed over to police, who later placed him in custody following court orders.

Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the NCP, declared that his party will not accept the rehabilitation of the Awami League, citing the party’s alleged involvement in genocide and crimes against humanity.
“If anyone from Awami League attempts infiltration, they must be handed over to the law,” he stated.
He also clarified that the NCP, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and the National Citizens’ Committee are independent entities, and only the NCP operates as a political party.
Referring to Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, he added, “A capable and respected figure like Dr. Yunus is well-suited to lead the country as Prime Minister. His competence has been internationally acknowledged.” On India’s demand for Sheikh Hasina in talks with Modi, Akhtar said, “Effective measures must be taken.”

In Anwara, Chattogram, members of Jamaat-e-Islami were reportedly attacked by activists from Chhatra League and Islami Chhatra Sena in a sudden and coordinated assault. Several Jamaat members were injured, including Ali Hossain (30), Maulana Nuruzzaman (42), and Abu Salek Munna (32), among others. One of them remains in critical condition. According to the local Jamaat leader of Bottoli Union, the attack was linked to their upcoming religious gathering scheduled for the 10th of this month. A case has been filed naming 14 individuals, including Najim Uddin (26), Sagir (25), Md. Belal Uddin (26), and Sirajul Mostafa (28).

Khilafat Majlis has expressed deep concern and anger over the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 in India, describing it as a blatant violation of religious and constitutional rights of Muslims. The statement denounced the inclusion of non-Muslims in the Waqf Board, calling it a backdoor encroachment on Muslim properties. The bill also empowers the government to determine what constitutes Waqf property. Khilafat Majlis alleged that the bill aims to seize Muslim assets for purposes such as temple construction. Emphasizing that Muslims were among the original builders of India, the party called for the immediate withdrawal of the bill and urged the Bangladesh government and international organizations to take action, warning that the law could have repercussions even in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.

The Revolutionary Workers Party has strongly condemned the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 in India, calling it a severe blow to the Muslim community’s rights and security. In an official statement, the party said the move by the BJP government is discriminatory and unconstitutional, undermining India’s federal structure. “This bill strikes at the heart of Muslim-held immovable properties that have been preserved for generations,” the statement read. The legislation allows non-Muslims to be members—and even CEOs—of Waqf boards, effectively nullifying traditional rights over these properties. The party demanded the immediate repeal of the bill.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Mia Golam Parwar issued a statement on Saturday condemning the passing of the controversial Wakf Amendment Bill in India, calling it part of a broader anti-Muslim agenda by the BJP government.

He accused the bill of stripping Muslims of religious rights and property, stating it opens the door for government control over mosques, madrasas, graveyards, and shelters donated by Muslims. Parwar also criticized the mandatory inclusion of two non-Muslim members in Wakf Boards, which he claims weakens Muslim control. Referring to mob lynchings over beef, the triple talaq ban, and other abuses, he urged the Indian government to stop these “oppressive actions” and ensure the safety of Muslims.

Swechchhasebak Dal leader Shahin Mia (27) was allegedly abducted and beaten by a group led by Swechchhasebak League leader Sarol in Siddhirganj.
Shahin said he was setting up a tea stall when Sarol’s group demanded Tk 50,000 in extortion. Upon refusal, he was forcibly dragged into a private car by Sarol, his brother Nishad, and others.
He was released only after promising to pay the amount. A case has been filed, and Shahin claimed he was also threatened with being blackmailed via a video involving local weapons.

A schoolteacher and marriage registrar, Mohammad Yusuf (47), has been arrested in Feni in connection with the 2017 attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade. The incident occurred on October 31, 2017, while she was returning from a visit to the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. The case was filed seven years later, on October 11, 2024, by Jubo Dal leader Sultan Md. Sikandar. Yusuf is a named accused in the case and also faces charges in an attempted murder case involving a Chhatra Dal leader, as well as allegations of illegally obtaining the marriage registrar position.

Police have arrested Monirul Islam Monir, former chairman of Barguna Sadar Upazila and ex-leader of the student wing of the ruling party, under the Special Powers Act. According to Officer-in-Charge Dewan Jaglul Hasan, Monir was apprehended during a special operation named “Devil Hunt” based on a tip-off. He faces multiple charges, including inciting unrest related to the country’s political situation.

Abu Hanif, a leader of Gano Adhikar Parishad, has accused the ruling Awami League of utilizing laundered money against the country’s interest. He stated that a people’s uprising has led to the formation of a government under Dr. Muhammad Yunus, which is striving to steer the country forward. Hanif called on all political parties to support this initiative. He proposed that the current administration should stabilize the nation, create a conducive environment for elections, and then go to the polls. He also highlighted the 21-point reform agenda launched by the Parishad in 2021, aimed at overhauling the state structure. “In the 53 years since independence, power and leadership have changed hands, but the political culture remains the same. We want to bring qualitative change through youth participation,” he asserted.

Dr. Atik Mujahid, Joint Convener of the Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP), has said that the party may contest the upcoming parliamentary elections either independently or as part of an alliance, depending on necessity. Speaking to journalists in Kurigram, he emphasized the importance of local insights in identifying the region’s problems and solutions. “Journalists, being closely connected to the grassroots, can provide valuable input on the issues faced by the local population and the steps needed for resolution,” he added.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the sideline meeting between Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Indian PM Narendra Modi during the BIMSTEC summit as a “beacon of hope.” He emphasized that the meeting could reduce the recent bitterness in Bangladesh-India relations and potentially lead to improved ties. Fakhrul praised both leaders’ sincerity and noted that the meeting may positively influence people in both countries.

BNP leader Rumeen Farhana said the fight for democratic rights is far from over. “We have yet to ensure people’s right to vote,” she stated, adding that those who became eligible voters 15 years ago have still not had the opportunity to cast their ballots. Emphasizing BNP’s commitment to democracy, she criticized attempts to delegitimize the party’s calls for elections. She also warned against internal party politics aimed at undermining activists, saying, “The people know who protested, who took to the streets, and who spoke up on talk shows despite threats.”
