Shajahan Khan has been placed on a four-day remand in connection with the murder of Rafiq Islam during the mass uprising in Badda. The prosecution sought a five-day remand, while the defense filed for bail. After hearing both sides, the court granted a four-day remand. Rafiq Islam (37) was shot by police and ruling party activists on July 19 in front of Bismillah Residential Hotel while protesting. He later succumbed to his injuries on August 27.

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdullah Al-Mamun has been named a co-defendant alongside Sheikh Hasina in a tribunal case for alleged crimes against humanity in suppressing a mass uprising. Mohammad Tajul Islam stated that student Shaikh Asahabul Yamin was killed during the protests in Savar. The tribunal has ordered three accused to be presented in court. He further added that Hasina was initially the sole defendant, but now Abdullah Al-Mamun has been included, and an arrest warrant has been issued against him.

LDP President Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmad has called for Bangladesh to be free from ‘Indian agents’ and external influence. Urging the interim government to take a firm stand, he claimed that India’s influence still exists in various sectors. He questioned why passports do not state ‘Except India’ when India is refusing visas to Bangladeshis. He also suggested building large hospitals in Bangladesh with China’s support to reduce dependence on India for medical treatment.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged justice for those who lost their lives in past anti-autocracy movements if his party wins the next election. Speaking at an iftar event, he stated that a fair and impartial election would allow the people to decide their country’s leadership. Martyrs’ family members present at the event expressed concerns over the lack of justice for their loved ones, warning of fresh protests if justice is not served. The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the interim government has recommended withdrawing 6,202 politically motivated cases filed during the ruling Awami League’s tenure. A central committee, after thorough field-level examination, concluded that these cases were politically motivated. The ministry, in collaboration with the Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, aims to protect innocent individuals and political activists from unwarranted harassment.

Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has urged political parties to avoid division on certain national issues. Speaking on the recent High Court verdict in the BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case, he said that while justice has been served, Abrar’s family will only find true peace when democracy flourishes without political revenge. He emphasized that differences of opinion are part of democracy and should not lead to hostility.

BNP leader Emran Saleh Prince stated that while others remained silent, BNP was the first to demand necessary political reforms, even in the face of threats from Awami League’s authoritarian rule. He reiterated BNP’s commitment to a mass uprising and electoral reforms, emphasizing the need for a free and fair election. “Some people are advising BNP on reform and elections. To them, I say—BNP does not need advice. We pursue pragmatic politics in the interest of the nation and its people,” Prince added.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that any delay in holding the national elections will allow fascist forces to regain strength. He emphasized the urgent need for elections to ensure a stable government and restore stability. Fakhrul expressed hope that the interim government will implement essential reforms quickly and pave the way for national elections. “Every time we open a newspaper, we are shocked. Murders, killings, and rapes have reached a distressing level,” he remarked.

Rangpur Awami League leader Lipi Khan Bhorosa has been arrested by the police in connection with an attempted murder case related to the recent mass uprising. She had openly participated in Tipu Munshi’s election rally and is also the chairperson of SL Bhorosa Group. Reports indicate that on July 19, protestors gathered in front of City Market when police and Awami League activists opened fire on them, injuring several people. On November 13 last year, a case was filed at Kotwali Police Station regarding the shooting of Mamunur Rashid Mamun. Lipi Khan is listed as the 179th accused in this case.

Tarique Rahman has taken responsibility for the family of Montu Chandra Das, who was murdered after filing a case against his daughter’s rapists. On Sunday evening, Rahman spoke with Montu’s wife over the phone, assuring her of support. Earlier, he arranged for food supplies, clothing, and other necessities to be delivered to the grieving family. Montu’s daughter, a seventh-grader, was raped on March 5. After filing the case, Montu was brutally killed on the night of March 11.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against Hasanul Haque Inu and his wife Afroza Haque for acquiring illegal wealth. Inu allegedly accumulated assets worth 48,425,507 BDT through criminal misconduct and abuse of power, inconsistent with his known sources of income. Suspicious transactions amounting to 118,816,019 BDT were identified in his four bank accounts. Additionally, it is alleged that his wife has become wealthy through these illicit earnings.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General Md. Akhtar Hossain has confirmed an investigation into Awami League leader Sheikh Selim over allegations of corruption and financial irregularities. Reports suggest that Selim manipulated tenders worth Tk 1,300 crore across various government projects, allegedly taking commissions of 10-15% from favored contractors. The ACC has initiated a probe into these claims. Sheikh Selim is reportedly in hiding. Earlier, on August 20, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) ordered a review of 91 bank and financial accounts linked to Selim and his family.

The High Court has upheld the death sentences of 20 individuals for the brutal 2019 murder of Buet student Abrar Fahad. In response, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Mia Golam Parwar stated that swift execution of the verdict would ensure justice. He recalled how Abrar was taken to a student leader’s room in Buet’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall, where he was subjected to brutal torture and killed on October 6, 2019. Jamaat believes that implementing the verdict without delay will provide justice to the victim’s family and set a milestone in the legal system.

A court has imposed a travel ban on Awami League leader Mahbubul Alam Hanif, his wife Fauzia Alam, and their three children—Fahim Afsar Alam, Farhan Sadik Alam, and Tanisha Alam. The ban follows allegations of massive financial irregularities and corruption against Hanif. The court order states that his wife and sons were also involved in laundering these illicit funds. The travel restriction has been enforced to ensure a fair investigation.

Ali Ahsan Junayed, joint convener of the National Citizens’ Committee, announced a new platform uniting political and social forces aligned with the July Uprising. Set to launch in April, the initiative aims to achieve the uprising’s unmet demands, including justice for past atrocities, banning the Awami League, and ensuring a corruption-free, inclusive Bangladesh. Junayed emphasized rebuilding the nation with ethical leadership and a new political culture. He called for active participation, hinting that the platform might evolve into a political party.
