RAB has arrested Golam Mortuza (55), a member of the convening committee of Pallabi Thana Awami League, in connection with a student murder case. OC Md. Hafizur Rahman confirmed the arrest. Reports indicate that Mortuza was involved in land grabbing and extortion, operating a teenage gang for these activities. Allegations suggest that during past government-backed crackdowns, he was a key instigator and financier behind violent attacks on innocent students and civilians.

Joint General Secretary of the district Youth League, Nahid Hasan Saddam, has been arrested with locally made weapons in connection with the murder of pedestrian Mahmudul Hasan Munna during the Rangpur uprising. Saddam was seen participating in an armed attack on August 4 last year, with images of him holding weapons widely circulated on social media. He had gone into hiding after the August 5 incident, during which Munna was killed.

A court has ordered the freezing of 14 bank accounts belonging to the Suchona Foundation, an organization led by WHO official and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter, Saima Wazed Puthul. The accounts reportedly hold Tk 48.35 crore. The petition alleges that Puthul, with her mother’s collusion, violated WHO regulations and misappropriated funds from government projects, laundering hundreds of crores abroad. The petition further claims that Puthul and her associates were attempting to transfer or misappropriate the foundation’s movable assets, necessitating the freezing of the accounts.

The BNP-Jamaat-aligned teaching group at Dhaka University, known as the White Group, presented 13 demands on Tuesday. Among their demands were justice for those who attacked students during the July uprising, expansion of housing facilities, ensuring campus safety, and improving the quality of education. The demands were submitted to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan. The group also highlighted the significant contributions of Dhaka University to the nation’s history and scientific research.

Mohammad Nezam Uddin (45) and Mohammad Salek (35), who were lynched in Satkania, were claimed to be Jamaat supporters by the Kanchana Union Jamaat. Locals allege that after the fall of the government on August 5, the victims arrived in the area with four or five CNGs, prompting a public announcement via loudspeaker that robbers had arrived. Subsequently, they were attacked. Reports suggest that the victims fired shots, and police claim to have recovered weapons from them. Jamaat leader Zayed stated that the two were falsely accused as robbers and killed under the pretense of arbitration. He also alleged that attempts to rescue them were obstructed by felled trees on the road.

At 10:00 AM on Tuesday, leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) participated in a visit and prayer ceremony for the martyrs of the 2024 Uprising at the Killing Ground in Kayerbazar. Earlier, at 8:00 AM, NCP members paid their respects at the National Memorial. Later, at 3:00 PM, an introductory meeting of the Executive Committee will be held at the central office, where party convener Mohammad Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain will lead the central members.

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s health has improved significantly compared to before, according to her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Dr. M.Z. Zahid Hossain.

He confirmed that Khaleda Zia is currently staying at the residence of Tarique Rahman in London, where she is under the supervision of specialist doctors. “She is not fully recovered, but by the grace of Allah, she is in much better condition than before. Once her doctors give approval, she will return home soon,” Dr. Zahid stated.

On Tuesday morning, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) held a prayer program at the Rayerbazar Memorial for the martyrs of the July uprising. During the event, NCP’s chief organizer, Sarjees Alam, declared that elections would not take place until Awami League is brought to justice.

Sarjees stated, “How can the people of this country think of anything else when so many murders were committed under Hasina’s orders? The killer Hasina must be brought back to Bangladesh, put on trial, and face the gallows.” He warned that no one should even mistakenly talk about elections before this happens.

Allegations have surfaced that former ministers Anisul Haque, Shahjahan Khan, and Salman F. Rahman are receiving VIP treatment in Dhaka Central Jail. Reports suggest that prison officials are providing them with special privileges in exchange for money.

It is alleged that these high-profile inmates are being allowed unauthorized visits with family members, enjoying home-cooked meals, and receiving other comforts that violate prison regulations.

In response to these claims, a two-member committee has been formed to investigate Jail Superintendent AKM Masum's involvement in facilitating these privileges.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has urged the people of Bangladesh to uphold the sacrifices of martyrs and avoid actions that would dishonor their legacy. Speaking at an iftar event, he stated that Jamaat does not and will not politicize the martyrs. He also announced that this Eid, the party will stand in solidarity with the families of martyrs and those who have been injured or left disabled. Additionally, a special publication commemorating the martyrs will be distributed to their families after Eid.

Gono Odhikar Parishad has strongly condemned what it calls false and misleading propaganda against its leader, Nurul Haque Nur. The party stated that Nur is currently on an organizational tour in Europe and dismissed rumors of his political transition. It reiterated that Gono Odhikar Parishad is the only organically formed political party in Bangladesh, built from grassroots movements against the authoritarian rule of Sheikh Hasina. The statement emphasized that Nur, a key figure in the quota reform movement and the July uprising, remains committed to leading the youth towards a new Bangladesh based on public aspirations.

BNP activists physically assaulted four Jamaat leaders inside the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). The incident has sparked tensions in the area, with local authorities yet to comment on the matter.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former Land Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda for allegedly amassing wealth beyond known income sources during his tenure. A separate case has also been filed against his wife, Usha Rani Chanda, on similar charges. Investigations found that Narayan Chandra Chanda possessed illegal assets worth Tk 17.97 million, while his wife had Tk 6.24 million in undeclared wealth. The ACC stated that the cases were filed as the charges were found to be substantiated.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister and cricket World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan is being held in solitary confinement in Adiala Jail, reserved for death row inmates, according to his party, PTI. Party spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram alleged that authorities are preventing Khan from meeting anyone, in violation of court orders. Imran Khan has been in jail since August 5, 2023.
