Election Commission (EC) official Anwarul Islam Sarkar announced that a technical committee has proposed reducing one parliamentary seat in Bagerhat due to a lower voter count, and adding one in Gazipur, where voter numbers have significantly increased. “According to Articles 119–124 of the Constitution, the EC is responsible for delimiting constituencies. This process considered expert input and data from the 2022 census,” he explained. Based on voter averages, each constituency should represent approximately 420,000 voters. While Gazipur exceeds this average, Bagerhat falls short — justifying the proposed adjustments.

Student organization leader Sadiq Kayem stated that while the July revolution led to the fall of fascism, the cultural establishment rooted in “Mujibism” remains intact. “Unless these elements are removed from various institutions and government bodies, fascism could resurface,” he warned. Kayem also remembered Abdullah Tahir, an assistant director of the cultural group "Uchcharon," who was martyred during the revolution. He lamented that more academic and cultural initiatives should have been undertaken in the past year to honor the July uprising. “That’s why we are organizing the ‘July Awakening & Cultural Fest’ this year — to spotlight the brutality imposed by Sheikh Hasina’s regime over the past 16 years,” he said.

BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has claimed that a massacre occurred during the July uprising, with the majority of victims being workers — particularly from the Savar and Ashulia industrial zones. “Bodies were burned after the killings. The brutality inflicted on the corpses surpassed even the horrors of Karbala,” he said. Tarique further stated that the workers who took to the streets had no personal gain at stake, as they were not seeking government jobs. “They joined the movement because they understood that under fascist rule, no one would regain their democratic rights or achieve justice for their demands,” he explained.

BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintu has announced that party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is in good health and will participate in the upcoming elections. Speaking about the electoral landscape in Feni, Mintu said, “Everyone knows Feni’s electoral history. The tribunal has scheduled August 6 to issue an indictment order in the case of the killing of Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the July Uprising. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has dismissed eight leaders of its doctors' wing, the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), citing violations of party discipline and involvement in activities against party principles. JAGPA Vice President Rashed Pradhan has called for the arrest of prominent media figures accused of legitimizing Sheikh Hasina’s rule and demonizing the opposition. In a public rally, he alleged that pro-government media personalities have manipulated public opinion and protected illegal MPs, including those close to CRI—an Awami League-affiliated think tank led by the children of Hasina and her sister. The Awami League is facing internal pressure following allegations of monetized access to Telegram-based virtual meetings attended by party leader Sheikh Hasina. Reportedly, even in her presence, participants pay bribes to speak. Obaidul Quader has been named at the center of these claims. Telegram has allegedly become the core platform for the party's activities, including daily nighttime meetings with leaders at various levels. Intelligence infiltration, unauthorized group expansion, and fundraising from aspirants have further complicated the situation.

Police have recovered checks worth Tk 22.5 million from the residence of Abdur Razzak bin Sulaiman (alias Riad), a senior organizer of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Dhaka, who was arrested in an extortion case. BNP leaders have decided not to pursue further discussions on granting constitutional recognition to the July Declaration. However, they remain open to dialogue regarding the "July Charter of Reform." Party insiders say constitutional recognition of the declaration could open the door to legitimizing other past and future uprisings, including the 1990 anti-Ershad movement. BNP favors archiving the 2024 uprising's declaration as a "political document" rather than amending the Constitution. The party’s standing committee believes reforms agreed upon in consensus can be implemented within a two-year transitional government period.

A Dhaka court has granted a 7-day remand for former Chief Justice A.B.M. Khairul Haque in a verdict forgery case filed at Shahbagh Police Station. Police had initially requested a 10-day remand. Notably, Haque appeared in court without legal representation. He was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on July 24 and later shown arrested in connection with a separate murder case filed at Jatrabari Police Station. This marks the first time a former Chief Justice has been arrested and jailed in connection with a murder case.
