Interim government advisor Dr. Fawzul Kabir Khan has announced a plan to provide low-interest loans to replace unfit public transport vehicles. At a ceremony launching the 'Rapid Pass' card system at Hatirjheel on Sunday, he stated that restoring order to the public transport system is a government priority. The new card system was introduced on 10 BRTC buses operating on the Gulistan–Shibbari–Motijheel route, with five buses showcased at the event.

Dhaka South Unit of the BNP’s volunteer wing has expelled Khan Monir, Convener of the New Market Thana Volunteer Team, following his arrest on extortion charges. The army detained him on July 16 with Tk 22,874 and a mobile phone, later handing him over to police. The party cited breach of discipline and stripped him of all positions, including primary membership. Members have been instructed to sever ties with him.

Bandarban, July 20 – Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain has stated that the implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord, now 27 years old, cannot be achieved overnight. "It has taken nearly three decades, and it's unrealistic to expect sudden implementation. Neither you should expect that, nor do we," he remarked at a public event in Bandarban.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting peace and development in the region. Highlighting concerns about the quality of education, he criticized the excessive competition for GPA-5, saying it has compromised academic standards.

Hill Affairs Advisor Supradip Chakma also addressed the gathering, noting that extreme poverty remains widespread across the three hill districts. "Despite government allocations, poor implementation and misuse have led to funds being returned unutilized," he said.

The event concluded with the distribution of saplings, livestock, sewing machines, and health-related financial support to local farmers and women, aimed at boosting livelihoods and social welfare in the region.

Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain, Religious Affairs Advisor, visited Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at his residence following his recent illness. Dr. Rahman was hospitalized after falling ill during a speech at Suhrawardy Udyan and has since returned home. Prominent BNP figures including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Tareque Rahman, and chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus have also expressed concern. Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of three party activists who passed away while attending a national rally. In a condolence message, he described their sacrifice as a source of inspiration and prayed for their place in paradise. The deceased were identified as Abu Sayeed (Khulna), Mostafizur Rahman (Pabna, accident), and Shah Alam (Rangpur, heart attack). Several others were reportedly injured during the event.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed six cases against 23 individuals over alleged land allocation fraud in the Purbachal New Town Project. The accused include former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and other family members. The charges allege that they illegally obtained diplomatic zone plots despite being ineligible. The ACC claims that the allocations were made through abuse of power and corruption. Senior government and former RAJUK officials have also been implicated. These cases were filed earlier in January.

The Hill Tracts Student Council declared him "unwelcome" in the region, condemning the remark as an insult to the hill communities and a reflection of state discrimination. In a Facebook post, Sarjis Alam expressed regret and reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for the rights and dignity of all ethnic groups. The student council had earlier warned that if no apology was made, all NCP activities would be declared unwelcome in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Bangladesh and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which Bangladesh will import 700,000 metric tons of wheat annually from the US at competitive prices over the next five years.

Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder stated that this initiative will play a vital role in strengthening the country's food security, nutrition, and supply chain. The agreement was signed by Director General of the Directorate General of Food, Abul Hasnat, and Vice President of the US Wheat Associates, Joseph Sowers. In the wake of the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, an anti-corruption campaign by the interim administration has prompted the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to freeze several high-value properties in London linked to Hasina’s close associates. These assets—worth hundreds of crores of Bangladeshi taka—were allegedly purchased using illicit funds siphoned through government contracts and the banking sector. Many individuals are now scrambling to liquidate their properties. While some label the crackdown as politically motivated, joint investigations by The Guardian and Transparency International have uncovered substantial evidence of corruption. Bangladesh has requested the UK to freeze more properties as investigations continue.

The International Crimes Tribunal has directed investigators to submit reports by October 15 in seven separate cases involving genocide and crimes against humanity committed during July-August 2024. A total of 45 individuals are accused, including prominent political figures such as Obaidul Quader, Anisul Huq, Dipu Moni, Amir Hossain Amu, Salman F Rahman, and Zunaid Ahmed Palak. The list also includes 23 former law enforcement officials. On Sunday, July 20, 39 of the accused were presented before the tribunal.

The Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP) has announced the formation of a "July Uprising Cell" aimed at supporting the families of those killed and injured during the July Uprising.

Following a visit to martyr families in Chattogram, Convener Nahid Islam said the government is expected to issue a formal declaration by August 5, which would give legal recognition to the uprising if incorporated into the Constitution. He acknowledged delays in delivering on-ground support and announced a major public rally in Dhaka on August 3.

Controversial singer Mainul Ahsan Noble has once again landed in legal trouble. On the night of July 19, he was arrested by Mirpur Model Police for allegedly assaulting an Uber driver while under the influence of alcohol.

According to the driver, Noble refused to exit the vehicle after reaching his destination and proceeded to abuse and physically assault him. Noble was accompanied by his former wife, Salsabil, at the time. Locals intervened and called police, who took both parties to the station. This isn't Noble’s first controversy—he has previously faced allegations ranging from public misconduct in Kurigram to a rape case in Dhaka.

At the opening of the 2025 Army Promotion Board, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized that promotion should be based on merit, highlighting the importance of honesty, professionalism, and political neutrality.

He instructed board members to prioritize leadership, integrity, and competence when selecting officers for promotion. Dr. Yunus also praised the military’s contributions to national security, peacekeeping, and disaster response, expressing gratitude to the Army Chief and other officials. Promotions for Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel ranks are currently under consideration.

Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has denied allegations of mass arrests in Gopalganj, stating that only actual perpetrators are being taken into custody.

He acknowledged political motives behind the recent unrest but assured the public that the situation is stabilizing, with the curfew lifted and Section 144 soon to be withdrawn. He confirmed that no children have been arrested, and the security forces are prepared to ensure a fair and peaceful election. He also mentioned that the army is actively supporting operations as required.
