The police arrested Zubayer Islam, general secretary of the Tanoor Upazila unit of the Rajshahi Youth League, as he attempted to flee to India on Monday morning.

Zubayer was detained at the Darshana International Checkpost when he appeared with his passport at immigration. Police records revealed multiple cases filed against him, including charges of violent clashes, assault, use of explosives, extortion, and intimidation.

According to police reports, these cases were lodged at Tanoor police station in September last year. The authorities continue to investigate the matter.

More than 600 men and women in Daudkandi municipality, Comilla, have contracted dengue fever, with three deaths reported in the past month and a half.

Redwan Islam, the municipal administrator of Daudkandi, confirmed the rising number of dengue infections in the area. Due to the alarming situation, two wards of the municipality have been declared high-risk zones.

The Upazila Health Department stated that dengue cases are rapidly increasing in wards 5 and 6, especially in the villages of Donarchar, Sabzikandi, Daudkandi, Sahapara, Baldakhal, and Tuzarbhanga. Currently, more than 600 people have been affected in these two wards alone. Local representatives are actively working to raise public awareness to curb the spread of the disease.

Abdur Rokib, an assistant conservancy officer of Khulna City Corporation, has come under fire for posting content on Facebook that appeared to support an autocratic style of governance. Rokib shared a photo of the funeral of an Awami League leader from Chuadanga with the caption, "So, is fascism better?" This post sparked widespread criticism and caught the attention of the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) authorities.

Following the controversy, Rokib was formally asked to explain his conduct through a show-cause notice. Subsequently, he has been transferred from the KCC headquarters to the regional office in Khalishpur. Additionally, a departmental investigation may be launched against him.

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed gratitude to the Australian government for resuming its visa operations in Dhaka, during a meeting with newly appointed Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle.

Khulna has reported its first COVID-19 cases amid the onset of a potential second wave of infections. Both patients are women—one aged 18 and the other 42. The younger woman has been hospitalized at Khulna Medical College Hospital due to her critical condition, while the elder patient is being treated at home and is reportedly in stable condition.

Heavy rainfall during the first monsoon downpour has flooded large parts of Khulna city, disrupting daily life and exposing flaws in a Tk 823 crore drainage project. Roads went underwater and homes were inundated, especially in low-lying areas. Residents and experts blame poor maintenance, unplanned development, and encroachment on canals. Despite major investments since 2018, the waterlogging problem persists. Authorities claim the project is ongoing, but locals demand accountability and faster action to prevent repeated flooding in future monsoon seasons.

Fardeen Ehsan Mahim, student coordinator in Pirgacha, Rangpur, was detained for nearly three hours by students protesting corruption and misuse of power. Accused of embezzling nearly one crore BDT and nepotism in government aid programs, Mahim failed to respond to the allegations. Students claim he exploited his leadership position since August. Mahim denied financial misconduct, admitting communication gaps. Authorities have promised an investigation. Authorities have removed the name of Ivy Rahman, former President of Bangladesh Mohila Awami League, from the Bhairab Municipal Stadium in Kishoreganj. It has now been renamed simply as "Upazila Stadium," following a directive from the Ministry. Originally established on three acres of land in the Bhairabpur North Para area after Bangladesh’s independence, the stadium was later named after Ivy Rahman by her son Nazmul Hasan Papon after his election as MP for Kishoreganj-6 constituency.

Amid controversy surrounding a leaked audio call allegedly involving NCP leader Sarwar Tushar and a woman, fellow NCP leader Tajnuba Jabin has spoken out, denying any involvement and condemning what she describes as a "vicious campaign of misinformation."

Speaking to the media, Jabin said:

"The person who is spreading fake photo cards and video content using my name — we could easily reveal their identity and expose the lies being spread against me. But we are choosing not to name them."

She further stated that this is the second time since entering politics that she has been the target of a highly organized cyberattack:

A joint security force arrested a BNP activist, Razzak Molla, along with 16 homemade bombs in Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj upazila late Monday night. Razzak is reportedly an active member of the BNP, while his son serves as a joint convenor of the local Chhatra Dal unit. Mohammad Ali Bhulu, former general secretary of Jamal Union BNP, confirmed Razzak’s affiliation with the party but distanced the organization from the explosives, saying, "The party will not take responsibility for what was recovered from him."

A Dhaka court has directed authorities to issue a gazette notification summoning Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 11 others to appear in court in connection with a case over alleged abuse of power involving the allocation of a 10-katha government plot in the Purbachal New Town Project.

The court has set July 1 as the deadline for submitting a report on the matter. According to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, six cases related to corruption in land allocation were scheduled for hearing today. However, police failed to submit arrest reports in five of the cases. In the remaining case, a report stated that Sheikh Hasina and the other 11 accused are currently absconding. The ACC has requested the court to proceed with publishing a gazette notice to summon the accused in accordance with legal procedure.

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has stated that Jamaat’s absence from the second day of the Accord Commission’s dialogue cannot be characterized as a boycott. Leaders of the party have confirmed that they will participate in the meeting scheduled for Wednesday. However, they have not provided any specific reasons for their absence today.

He emphasized that the current government remains completely neutral. All parties and groups involved in the July movement are being treated with equal importance, without any discrimination. According to the Press Secretary, the government’s impartiality is not compromised by the joint statements.

Defaulted loans in Bangladesh have nearly doubled in the last nine months, reaching Tk 4.2 trillion. In just three months, non-performing loans (NPLs) rose by Tk 745.7 billion, far outpacing overall loan growth. Key causes include loan rescheduling, reclassification of large loans, non-renewal of working capital loans, missed rescheduled payments, and interest accumulation on existing defaults. Private banks are worst affected, with some seeing NPL rates up to 98%. Experts urge asset seizures and special tribunals to restore banking sector health.
