The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reported 9 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours from 40 sample tests, marking a positivity rate of 22.5%.

This brings the country’s total confirmed cases to 2,051,729. Two patients recovered during this period, increasing the total recoveries to 2,019,354. No deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the outbreak, 29,499 people have died due to the virus in Bangladesh.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has called for urgent action from the Election Commission, stressing that the voices of 11 million expatriates must not be ignored.

"You cannot claim any real progress while sidelining our remittance warriors. Denying them voting rights is a brutal injustice," said Rahman, warning that the economic repercussions would be severe. He also urged the Commission to test its capabilities by conducting local elections ahead of the national polls.

To maintain control over the sacrificial rawhide market during Eid-ul-Adha, the government has imposed a 10-day ban on transporting rawhide to Dhaka from other districts, starting from Eid day, the Ministry of Commerce announced.

Earlier, on May 25, Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin had indicated that this measure would help regulate supply. Additionally, 30,000 tonnes of salt will be distributed nationwide free of charge to assist with local preservation of rawhide. The public has also been encouraged to donate hides to madrasas or orphanages, which can preserve and later sell them.

India has continued the practice of pushing people across various border points into Bangladesh, according to Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Tawhid Hossain. In response, Bangladesh is preparing to send another official letter to the Indian government, either today or tomorrow.

"We want this issue resolved through proper consular procedures. It's not feasible to stop this physically," said Hossain. He added that India has raised some concerns, claiming procedural delays on Bangladesh’s part. “We have reviewed the matter and found that an old list is still being referenced. In many cases, we’ve already received individuals after verifying them against India’s submitted list.”

BNP leader Ishraq Hossain has declared, "This government is now being forced to hear us—if the oath-taking for the mayoral post is not arranged immediately, I will swear in and sit in the chair with the voters of Dhaka."

He stressed that the people of Dhaka should decide how the city corporation should be run. "We will not allow any external advisor or administrator to manage the city corporation," Ishraq added.

He also criticized the government's delay in appointing a mayor, claiming that it has created doubts in people's minds regarding free and fair elections under this regime. "This government has lost its neutrality," he asserted.

Ishraq further mentioned that the sit-in protest in front of the Nagar Bhaban (City Corporation building) demanding the mayor’s oath has been temporarily suspended. However, he warned that there would be an intense movement after Eid.

Economic Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has stated, "We have not taken power, we have assumed responsibility. And we have taken on this responsibility at a very challenging time." He emphasized that the country is at a critical juncture, and despite the challenges, collective efforts have managed to bring the country to a more stable position.

Dr. Ahmed also mentioned that due to the absence of parliament, they presented the budget to the nation yesterday. "The President has signed the Finance Bill," he added. He further highlighted that the reforms they have initiated are ongoing and that they would continue their efforts to the best of their ability. "We hope that the future leaders will implement the measures we have started," he concluded.

He also acknowledged the difficulties faced in managing the country's limited resources amid rising demands, the need to bring in foreign resources, and the impact of global challenges. "From the state of capitalism to the banking situation and law and order—there is an overall state of disorder," he noted. "We are working in this chaotic environment."

On Tuesday at around 4:30 AM, the Border Security Force (BSF) pushed eight individuals back into Bangladesh through the Chan Shikari border in the Shibganj area of Chapainawabganj.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members of the 59th Battalion detained the individuals after they were pushed into Bangladeshi territory. The BGB then brought them to their camp. According to Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, all of the detained individuals are Bangladeshi nationals. They had entered India through various borders between 2017 and 2024, and were subsequently apprehended by Indian police.

In connection with the murder of six people, including Anas, during the July public uprising in Chankharpul, a case has been filed on charges of crimes against humanity. A notice has been issued for the appearance of four fugitives before the International Crimes Tribunal.

The case pertains to the killings of six individuals in Chankharpul during the July uprising. The fugitives are now being called to face charges for their alleged roles in these murders, which have been classified as crimes against humanity.

Advisor Asif Mahmood has strongly refuted rumors circulating on social media about the discovery of 1,200 sacks of rice at his house. Asif clarified that these rumors were spread by cyber cells of banned organizations and were blindly propagated by political figures. He stated that after the July events in Bangladesh, he had hoped for constructive politics, but unfortunately, the political atmosphere has shifted towards vengeance and personal attacks. Asif clarified that the incident in question took place in Chandpur's Shahrastri area.

A total of 1,179 teachers in the refugee camps of Ukhiya and Teknaf in Cox's Bazar are facing job losses due to a funding shortage. These teachers have been part of the learning centers providing education to over 225,000 Rohingya children. UNICEF has announced that, due to a lack of funds, these centers will close by the end of June. Furthermore, several subjects such as English, Science, and Social Studies will no longer be taught, and no new textbooks will be provided. Instead, UNICEF plans to reuse old textbooks. This decision will directly affect the employment of Bangladeshi teachers working in these centers.

Lawyer Shishir Monir posted on Facebook urging people to learn from the July 2023 uprising. He advised against reckless speech and obstinate behavior, advocating for constructive solutions to issues. He also stressed the importance of proving one's capabilities and warned that the younger generation is not fond of senseless rhetoric. He also mentioned the resolution of political cases based on the ruling of the highest court, which resulted in the reinstatement of Jamaat-e-Islami’s registration.

Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam has announced that, in order to prevent robberies and untoward incidents during the upcoming Eid travel, photographs of every passenger boarding at each bus stop must be taken. Jahangir emphasized that the government, along with the Bus Owners Association, is committed to ensuring a smooth travel experience. Last year, the journey was largely hassle-free, and similar expectations have been set for this year. Both the onward and return trips will follow government-regulated fares, with no deviation allowed.

BNP leader Ishraq Hossain's followers are still protesting outside the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) building, demanding his appointment as mayor. Protesters have not only blocked the main gate but also locked all departmental office gates, halting all services. Ishraq Hossain is expected to visit the site around 3 PM to meet with the protesters and assess the situation.

Jamaat-e-Islami Amir, Dr. Shafiqul Rahman, stated that those who fought for change risked their lives to remove fascism. While the fascists themselves may have gone, fascism remains. He emphasized that its shadow still looms over the nation. Rahman also stated that to completely eliminate fascism, a free, fair, and acceptable election is essential, which will result in the formation of a just government. He further noted that the Jamaat-e-Islami expects the current Election Commission to maintain its dignity and avoid any form of partisanship. If the Election Commission upholds its honor, the party will offer full cooperation.

In the early hours of Monday, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India pushed back 12 individuals through the border in the Dhobaura region of Mymensingh. They were later apprehended by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the Munshipara area. Among the 12 detained, three were women, eight were men, and one was a child. All of them were residents of the Narsingdi and Khulna districts in Bangladesh, but after crossing into India, they had gained Indian citizenship.
