India has imposed a restriction on importing readymade garments and other Bangladeshi products through the Akhaura land port, affecting trade with Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. The ban covers fruit, fruit-flavored drinks, soft drinks, processed foods, plastic products, yarn and its by-products, and furniture. As a result, exports from Bangladesh via this route have dropped dramatically, with only three trucks carrying fish entering India on the day the restrictions took effect. The sudden halt has caused anxiety among exporters and port businesses.

Md. Shahjahan Mia, Additional Secretary in the Local Government Division and current Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Dhaka WASA. Upon receiving the appointment, Shahjahan Mia stated, “I’ve been given the responsibility, and now it’s time to get to work. The court has once again postponed the submission deadline for the investigation report into the Bangladesh Bank reserve heist. The new date has been set for July 2. On February 5, 2016, hackers fraudulently transferred $81 million from Bangladesh Bank’s account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York via SWIFT codes. The stolen funds were later funneled to the Philippines. Investigators believe a local network may have aided the cybercriminals in laundering the money abroad.

The Chattogram Protection Committee held a sit-in protest from 10 AM to 1 PM on Sunday, opposing any plans to hand over management of the Chattogram Port to foreign companies. Speakers called for dismantling syndicates formed under successive Awami League governments and emphasized that while they are not against foreign investment, there is no justification for outsourcing the management of facilities that the country can operate independently. Tarique Rahman also stated that handing over the port is beyond the mandate of an interim government. Several political and religious groups, including Hefazat-e-Islam, Gano Adhikar Parishad, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the 12-party alliance, have also expressed opposition, asserting that such a decision cannot be made unilaterally by the government.

Dr. Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, President of the Liberal Democratic Party, met with BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at her residence on Sunday evening. Oli’s adviser confirmed that the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, during which Colonel Oli inquired about Khaleda Zia’s health. Planning Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud has assured that the upcoming national budget will be responsible and sustainable. “It will not burden the next fiscal year,” he said. While the size of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) has been reduced, allocations will be increased in health and education. Around 2,500 doctors and healthcare workers will be recruited, and operating funds for the health sector will be adjusted accordingly. Provisions for repaying teacher welfare dues and other debts have also been included. The budget aims to control inflation, increase revenue collection, reduce foreign debt, improve implementation capacity, and ensure a sustainable economic framework.

Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that the investigation into the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Samya will be handed over to the Detective Branch (DB). A delegation led by DU Vice Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan met the adviser at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Following the meeting, Professor Hosne Ara Begum stated that they demanded swift and fair justice. Samya’s friend, SS Nahin Islam, said they had given Shahbagh police a 48-hour deadline but saw no significant progress. The adviser assured them that the DB would take over the investigation and that a special tribunal would be set up for trial.

Supporters of Ishraq Hossain have announced a blockade of the Dhaka City Hall from 11 AM to 3 PM on Monday, demanding his reinstatement as mayor. The protest was announced on behalf of “Dhakabashi” by Moshior Rahman. Demonstrators were heard chanting slogans such as “One demand, one goal—Asif must resign.” Many protesters demanded the resignation of Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, stating that the city hall gates would remain locked until Ishraq is formally reinstated as mayor.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said the party is placing national interest above partisan perspectives in its approach to political reforms. Referring to a recent attack and arson at a Jamaat office in Pabna's Atgharia area, he expressed concern about the political climate even before election schedules are announced.

“There is already a scramble to control territories. From what we’re seeing, the upcoming election still doesn’t seem set for a fair and healthy process,” said Taher.

He added that Jamaat is engaging with the reform commission from a national interest perspective and urged the government to act more decisively to prevent further political instability.

BNP leader Amir Khasru has warned that the continuous delay in holding elections is pushing the country toward deeper instability. Speaking to reporters, he said the nation is in a state of anxiety. “We removed autocracy with unity, expecting a transition to democratic governance. That expectation remains unmet,” he said. He criticized the interim government for acting like an elected one, making major decisions regarding corridors, ports, and investment deals. “What is the legal authority of this government to make such decisions?” he asked. Khasru also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in handing over the mayoral responsibilities to Ishraq Hossain.

Leaders and activists of the BNP’s student wing, Chhatra Dal, ended their blockade of the Shahbagh intersection after 90 minutes on Sunday. They were protesting the killing of student leader Shahriar Alam Samya and demanding justice. The blockade began around 3:45 PM and was called off at 5:25 PM by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam. Earlier in the day, the group had organized a black-flag march demanding justice for Samya’s murder, increased campus security, and the resignation of the university’s vice chancellor and proctor.

Inspector Sujan Haque of Vatara Police Station confirmed that actress Nusrat Faria has been formally arrested in connection with an attempted murder case. She was initially detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while en route to Thailand. Following preliminary questioning at the airport, she was transferred to Vatara Police Station. Sources say there was an active arrest warrant against her, and she has now been shown as arrested under that warrant.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan has confirmed that actress Nusrat Faria is being interrogated at the Detective Branch (DB) office. She was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday while attempting to travel to Thailand. Faria is named in an attempted murder case filed at Vatara Police Station during a recent mass uprising. However, she has not yet been officially shown as arrested in the case, according to Officer-in-Charge Mazaharul Islam.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated a probe into the alleged accumulation of illegal wealth by Sheikh Hasina. A special investigation team, led by ACC Deputy Director Masudur Rahman, has been tasked with verifying her asset declarations and scrutinizing her income tax records to uncover any discrepancies.

This is part of a broader crackdown by the ACC, which is currently investigating cases involving plot forgery, money laundering abroad, and embezzlement of project funds. Arrest warrants have already been issued based on preliminary findings in several of these cases.

Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Government, has emphasized the need for a coordinated effort by all ministries to eliminate child labour in Bangladesh.

He noted that child labour is still prevalent across the country, particularly in farming, fishing, and brick kilns. Many children are deprived of education and are forced into work due to their families’ financial struggles—negatively affecting their health and development.

The adviser stated that the National Child Welfare Council is working to ensure children's rights, protection, and overall development. He added that national steering committees, along with district and upazila-level bodies, are actively working on this issue, while NGOs are also implementing projects focused on education and child development.
