Fayez Ahmad Tayyab, Assistant to the Chief Adviser, warned telecom operators to reduce internet prices or face strict action. "We’ll bring up issues like dues, licensing, and performance reviews during bilateral talks if prices aren’t reduced," he said. The BTRC has already initiated discussions and regulatory measures. "We don’t want to block anyone’s path, but affordable, quality internet must be ensured for the public," Tayyab stated. BTRC Chairman Emdadul Bari added that lowering internet costs is not solely a BTRC issue but a challenge for the entire ecosystem.

Lower Internet Prices or Face Consequences: Fayez Ahmad Tayyab Warns Operators

Sarjis Alam has criticized the delay in addressing the legitimate demands of Jagannath University (JnU) students. "Why is there such reluctance to act?" he asked in a statement. Highlighting the lack of residential halls, especially for female students, Sarjis questioned why spaces occupied by Awami League-affiliated groups around the campus haven't been reclaimed. He urged the authorities to prioritize the construction of a permanent campus and expedite its approval by ECNEC. "Let Jagannath University function as a real university, not in name only," he added.

Gana Odhikar Parishad leader Rashed Khan has accused adviser Mahfuz Alam of orchestrating the division within the national unity forged during the recent mass uprising. “We condemned the bottle attack on Mahfuz Alam. But have you heard the leaked audio? It reflects his mindset. Under his directive, attacks were carried out on Jagannath University (JnU) teachers and female students,” Rashed said.

He further criticized the selective outrage: “You’re only focused on the bottle incident, while ignoring the violence against students and teachers. If you have integrity, condemn both.” Rashed concluded, “This proves that the assaults were carried out under the instructions of such advisers.”

It is worth noting that Mahfuz Alam has issued an apology for the comments in his leaked audio.

BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has claimed that the government dreads the idea of elections because they know BNP would win. "Even mentioning the word 'election' seems like a sin now," he said at a rally. He also alleged that Tk 900 billion has been laundered from the country in the last eight months. "BNP is not in power—so who is extorting money and smuggling funds abroad? It’s the ruling party people," Abbas stated. He cautioned BNP supporters against assuming the party is already enjoying good times. "Our Acting Chairman hasn’t even returned to the country yet," he added.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused the Awami League of betraying national interests by allowing India to operate the Farakka Barrage. Speaking on the 49th anniversary of Maulana Bhashani's historic long march towards Farakka, Fakhrul said the protest aimed to ensure Bangladesh's rightful share of Ganges river water. "Back then, the Awami League government ignored public sentiment and allowed India to start test operations at the barrage, which has now turned into a death trap for Bangladesh," he said. Fakhrul added that unilateral water withdrawal from 54 transboundary rivers and the construction of multiple dams have turned the northwest region of the country into a near-desert.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing leader Zahidul Islam has called for responsible use of social media, especially Facebook. “Unrestrained use is doing more harm than good,” he wrote, citing Facebook addiction among youth as a growing concern. He noted that the political unrest since July has given rise to a new trend of ‘Facebook politics,’ marked by toxic personal attacks against opposing views. Zahidul urged users to reflect the mission of a believer’s life through their online presence, turning platforms like Facebook into tools for truth and religious outreach.

During a discussion with the Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Professor Ali Riaz said the Consensus Commission aims to reflect the collective national aspirations in a charter that all political parties can later adopt. “This effort captures the longstanding desire for unity in Bangladesh,” he said. “The July-August people’s uprising gave voice to years of frustration and hope. We want to give that energy a defined political shape.” Riaz emphasized the need to build a state that guarantees equal rights, protects civil liberties, and respects dissenting opinions.

Jagannath University student Hussain, who allegedly threw a bottle at advisor Mahfuz Alam, claimed it was not an intentional act of aggression. “I threw the bottle into the air with no intent to harm or insult anyone,” he said. Denying political affiliation, he added, “I was just a regular student attending the protest with my classmates. I’m not part of any organization.” He said that after photos of his participation in the July protests emerged, police targeted him. “Now I’m being falsely labeled as a member of Chhatra League,” he said, also revealing he has received multiple threats warning him of harassment on campus.

Press Secretary Shafiqur Alam stated that although 266 murder cases have been filed against journalists since August 5, the government cannot be held responsible for them. He added that any attempt to protest false or misleading news is often misconstrued as an attack on press freedom. “The interim government is committed to institutionalizing press freedom,” he said. He encouraged media outlets to acknowledge past mistakes and regain public trust. The government, he noted, is also working to ensure journalist safety and expedite the accreditation process. “Journalism should be rooted in facts, not personal ideology,” he added.

Activist Uma Fatema expressed deep concern over student safety during the ongoing protests. Citing eyewitness accounts, she stated that police officers were seen loading bullets into firearms, spreading panic among students. “Five teachers went to negotiate but returned quickly,” she wrote, adding, “We must ensure that no student of Jagannath University is harmed, not even slightly.” She condemned the bottle thrown at Mahfuz Alam and called for those responsible to be held accountable. Stressing the legitimacy of the student movement, she urged the government to heed the demands rather than suppress dissent.
