Shariful Sheikh, a young artist from Veramara in Kushtia, has created a stir by painting large portraits of global football star Lionel Messi on several walls near Arakandi Bazar in Bahadurpur. Covering about 16 by 10 feet, the four portraits—two in color and two in black and white—were completed entirely at his own expense. The artworks have attracted crowds of visitors who come to take photos and praise his creativity.
Shariful, a commercial artist and drawing teacher, said his admiration for Argentina and Messi began in 2002. He emphasized that the project was driven purely by passion, not commercial motives. Local residents and Argentina supporters have lauded his effort as both an expression of football fandom and a model of rural artistry. Observers noted that such large-scale depictions of international icons are rare in village settings.
Art critics and community members believe that with proper support, rural talents like Shariful could contribute significantly to the national art scene. His Messi portraits now stand as symbols of dedication, emotion, and creative spirit in the heart of Kushtia.

A Dhaka court has acquitted former Bangladesh national cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana of all charges in a long-running case concerning the legality of their marriage. The verdict, delivered on June 10, 2026, concluded that there was insufficient legal evidence to prove the allegations. The case began in 2021 when Tamima’s former husband, Rakib Hasan, filed a complaint alleging that she married Nasir without legally divorcing him, making the subsequent marriage invalid and punishable.
The controversy started after photos of Nasir and Tamima’s wedding surfaced on social media in February 2021, sparking widespread discussion and leading to legal proceedings. The Police Bureau of Investigation later reported conflicting interpretations regarding the legality of Tamima’s previous divorce. The court formally began the trial in 2022, hearing testimony from about ten witnesses before both sides presented final arguments.
After reviewing all evidence and arguments, the court ruled that the prosecution failed to establish the charges beyond reasonable doubt. The verdict ends a five-year legal process that had drawn significant public and media attention in Bangladesh’s sports and social circles.

Bangladesh’s State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. M A Muhit, announced that the government will introduce an ‘e-health card’ system to digitally connect all levels of healthcare, from primary centers to specialized hospitals. It will also help reduce unnecessary medication by maintaining transparent electronic records. The system is part of the government’s broader plan to digitalize the healthcare sector, improve efficiency, and ensure timely treatment through a structured referral process.

As Bangladesh’s BNP government prepares to present its first national budget, the country’s aviation and tourism industries are urging the government to move beyond nominal allocations and introduce a coherent policy framework they say has been missing for decades. Industry leaders argue that such a framework could transform these strategically important sectors into key drivers of economic growth.
Aviation operators are calling for tax relief on jet fuel, aircraft leasing, and airline operations to reduce costs and enhance competitiveness. They also seek budgetary support for operational readiness of the new terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Tourism entrepreneurs, meanwhile, want the long-delayed National Tourism Master Plan implemented, along with investment incentives, institutional backing, and an electronic visa system to attract foreign visitors.
Stakeholders view the 2026–27 budget as a test of the BNP’s election pledge to make Bangladesh a regional aviation hub and a globally competitive tourism destination by 2034. They emphasize that the budget’s true measure will be whether it signals long-term policy commitment rather than just allocation size.
