Three Bangladeshi women were trafficked to Mumbai with the false promise of hospital jobs but were forced into immoral activities. Police arrested one suspect, Manasar Ahmed Sheikh, and are searching for three others involved. The women were rescued and sent to a shelter. They crossed the border illegally last month, with traffickers bribing officials to facilitate their entry. Authorities are investigating if more women were trafficked by the group and coerced into prostitution.

Farida Khandaker, wife of former army chief and Bir Uttam recipient AVM (Retd) AK Khandaker, passed away at 12:15 PM on Sunday at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH). She was 82. Admitted the previous day, she had been suffering from multiple health conditions, including pneumonia, breast cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. Her funeral prayer will be held on Wednesday after Asr prayers at BAF BSR Shaheen Mosque, and she will be buried at the BAF Shaheen Cemetery in Tejgaon. Prayers are requested for the departed soul.

Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus said the interim government formed after the July uprising is deeply committed to the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Marking World Accreditation Day 2025, he urged continued efforts from the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) and stakeholders to boost sustainable industrialization and trade. A tragic head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG auto rickshaw occurred on Motlob-Pennai Road in Chandpur, resulting in two deaths and six injuries, including a child. The accident happened near Bardia Bridge in Motlob South Upazila on June 8. The deceased include the auto rickshaw driver Abu Bakar Siddique and passenger Tapan Chowdhury. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched investigations against 10 former top military officers, including ex-Army Chief Aziz Ahmed and former Air Force Chief Sheikh Abdul Hannan, over allegations of abuse of power, bribery, illegal wealth accumulation, and money laundering. Dhaka Metropolitan Police has imposed a ban on all meetings, rallies, processions, and mass gatherings around the Chief Adviser’s official residence, Jamuna, and the Secretariat area starting Monday, June 9, 2025, until further notice. A pedestrian named Didarul Alam, 45, was killed after being hit by a speeding Shahib Paribahan bus while crossing the road in the Madam Bibir Hat area of Bhatiari Union, Sitakunda. The accident occurred around 12:45 PM on Sunday on the Chattogram-bound lane. Didarul was a resident of Madhyam Azam Nagar in Mirsarai upazila. According to police, he died on the spot. A 10-month-old girl named Madina drowned after falling into a water-filled bucket at her home in Darihasmarhi village of Gurudaspur, Natore. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Sunday while the baby was playing on the veranda and her mother was asleep. Locals questioned how such a small child could climb into a bucket without tipping it over. Local Awami League leader cited negligence, while the Mashinda Union chairman confirmed the incident. No other family members were present at the time.

Eighteen-year-old CNG driver Naeem was brutally killed after being called out from his home in Dhaka's Kadamtali area on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 10:30 AM near Rahela Manzil in Smritidhara Lane No. 8. His mother said he was sleeping when she left for work. Locals found him wounded and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died. Police suspect previous enmity as the motive. One person has been detained. Locals blame rising crime on lack of effective policing.

Traders allege that certain syndicates may be involved in illegal cross-border trade.
