The Cyber Crime Unit of the Detective Branch (DB) arrested truck driver Titon Islam on Monday night in connection with a fatal road accident in Banani’s Chairman Bari area. The accident, which occurred early Monday morning, claimed the lives of two pedestrians near the Chairman Bari U-turn. One of the deceased has been identified as Minara Akter, a garment worker, while the other victim remains unidentified. DB officials confirmed the arrest, stating that further legal proceedings are underway.

Truck Driver Arrested for Fatal Accident in Banani

According to a report by the Human Rights Support Society, at least 305 Bangladeshis have been killed by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) over the past decade, with another 282 injured. The report details annual fatalities: 43 in 2015, 28 in 2016, 30 in 2017, 15 in 2018, 42 in 2019, 51 in 2020, 17 in 2021, 23 in 2022, 30 in 2023, and 26 in 2024. In 2024 alone, BSF was involved in 57 attacks along the border. Between January 2025 and March 8, BSF carried out 15 attacks, resulting in four deaths, 10 injuries, and five people being shot. Additionally, three Bangladeshis were killed in attacks by Indian citizens and Khasi communities near the border.

Awami League Leader Snatched from Police Custody in Moulvibazar

Police have arrested five robbers, including Youth League leader Raifel Mohiuddin (38), while they were attempting to escape by river after committing a robbery. The arrests took place with the seizure of two pistols, 37 rounds of ammunition, magazines, and several sharp weapons, according to Nazirpur River Police. The gang was fleeing in two trawlers, transporting a stolen excavator (beko) and a pontoon. Authorities revealed that the stolen equipment had been stored at Noor Mohammad Mollah’s brick kiln in Madaripur since the robbery on March 8. On Sunday night, around 20-22 robbers loaded the excavator onto the pontoon and attempted to escape from Kalkini, Madaripur, toward Babuganj. Acting on a tip-off, police launched an operation on the Arial Khan River, leading to the arrests.
