A Natore court has granted bail to a seven-year-old boy accused in an attempted murder case. The child, dressed in his school uniform, appeared before the Women and Children Court and applied for bail. Judge Muhammad Rafiqul Islam approved the bail on a bond of 500 taka under the custody of a lawyer and summoned the complainant, Shahanur Rahman, to appear on the next hearing date. The court verified the boy’s birth registration and determined his age to be seven years, seven months, and two days, expressing surprise that the police report had listed him as 21.
The defense lawyer stated that the complainant had intentionally misrepresented the boy’s age out of personal animosity. The complainant later admitted that the age listed in the case was an estimate and declined further comment when informed of the child’s true age.
Police officials said the false age information was provided by the complainant and confirmed that the boy’s name would be removed from the case after investigation.

NCP lawmaker Abul Hasnat, representing Cumilla-4, told the Bangladesh Parliament on April 26, 2026, that a renewed atmosphere of fear and intimidation is emerging in the country. Speaking during the discussion on the President’s address, he said citizens should be able to criticize the Prime Minister and express opinions freely on social media without fear. He alleged that opposition voices are being suppressed through legal cases and that individuals have been detained for online criticism.
Hasnat criticized what he described as a return to a “vicious cycle” of blame and repression, warning that campuses are again becoming unstable. He accused the ruling party of using students for political purposes while their own children study abroad. He also said the Human Rights Commission has been weakened and that the cancellation of the Police Reform Commission ordinance contradicts claims of reform.

A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand for former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) officer Manzil Haider Chowdhury in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The order was issued on Sunday by Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan after a hearing. Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Suman confirmed the court’s decision. The investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Md Amjad Hossain Talukder of the Ramna Detective Branch, had sought a seven-day remand for further questioning.
Before this, Manzil Haider had been remanded for five days in the same anti-terrorism case and for a total of twelve days in three phases in a separate murder case. The prosecution argued that although some important information had been obtained during interrogation, more time was needed to identify other suspects. The defense, represented by lawyer Kamal Hossain, opposed the remand, calling it unjust to keep his client in custody repeatedly for related cases and citing his illness and long military service.
According to investigators, the case involves allegations of involvement with a banned organization, anti-government conspiracy, and secret meetings. Manzil Haider was arrested on April 9 from Dhaka’s DOHS area and was earlier remanded in a murder case linked to a July 2024 shooting in Nilkhet.
