Nizam Uddin, Deputy Coordinator of NCP’s Chattogram Metropolitan Branch, has been issued a show-cause notice amid allegations of collecting Tk 5 lakh extortion and pressuring for an additional Tk 5 lakh to halt port-centric protests. A video detailing the accusations went viral on Sunday evening.
The notice, signed by Arif Moinuddin, Deputy Coordinator (Office) of Chattogram Metropolitan NCP, cited violations of party discipline. Nizam Uddin has been asked to submit a written explanation within 24 hours to Chief Deputy Coordinator Mir Arshadul Haque.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to file four separate cases against Afroza Khan Rita, Manikganj district BNP convener and chairman of Munno Ceramics, along with six others, for allegedly embezzling Tk 86.5 crore from Uttara Finance and Investment Limited. The ACC approved the cases on Monday.
According to the charges, without submitting proper records or presenting them in board meetings, the accused colluded to misappropriate the substantial amount from the financial institution. Alongside Rita, the accused include Uttara Finance Managing Director S.M. Shamsul Arefin, former Vice President Mohammad Main Uddin, Kazi Arifuzzaman, and three others.

Seven police officers have been promoted to the newly created supernumerary posts of Additional Inspector General (Addl. IG). Previously, these officers held the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG). The promoted officials are: DIG Md. Ali Hossain Fakir of the APBN, DIG G.M. Azizur Rahman of the SB, Additional Police Commissioner Md. Sarwar of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, DIG Md. Mostafa Kamal of the Armed Police Battalion, DIG Kazi Md. Fazlul Karim of the Police Headquarters, DIG Md. Rezaul Karim of Highway Police, and DIG Ahsan Habib Palash of Chattogram Range.
The government notification states that these seven supernumerary posts were created specifically for these promotions. The posts will automatically be dissolved if vacancies arise due to promotion, retirement, removal, or other reasons, with a validity period of one year from the date of creation. The promoted officers will continue their duties in their current roles while holding the new rank.
