The Israeli Embassy in Canada has strongly condemned Canada’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, saying it amounts to rewarding Hamas for the October 7, 2023 attacks. In a statement, the embassy said:

"Recognizing a Palestinian state without accountability, effective institutions, or humane leadership is equivalent to endorsing the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7."

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will officially recognize Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September. He emphasized that the move is intended to support a two-state solution. Canada also expressed hope that the Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, will hold general elections by 2026, excluding Hamas and ensuring the new state remains demilitarized.

Yemen’s armed forces have claimed responsibility for coordinated missile and drone strikes on four key Israeli locations, including Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport. According to the Yemeni statement, they used five drones and one Palestine-2 hypersonic missile in the attack, temporarily disrupting airport operations. The statement warned that attacks would continue until the blockade and aggression on Gaza are lifted. However, the Israeli military reported intercepting one drone launched from Yemen.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that "no one is starving in Gaza," asserting that Israel has allowed humanitarian aid throughout the conflict. "If we hadn’t, no one would be left alive there," he stated.

However, former U.S. President Donald Trump responded by pointing to widely circulated images of emaciated children in Gaza, saying, “Those kids look very hungry.”

Despite international pressure leading to temporary humanitarian pauses, Gaza residents report that little to no real change has occurred on the ground. Israel blames Hamas for obstructing aid deliveries, alleging the group seizes relief supplies to consolidate power. However, no concrete evidence has been presented to support this claim.

Two leading Israeli human rights organizations—B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights—have jointly accused the Israeli government of committing genocide in Gaza. Their report details extensive atrocities, including mass killings of women, children, and the elderly, widespread displacement, and deliberate starvation. They highlight the destruction of civilian infrastructure, depriving Palestinians of essential services like healthcare and education. B’Tselem director Yuli Novak stated, “This is a deliberate campaign against civilians aimed at eradicating an entire population.” The groups urged the U.S. and Europe to take decisive action.

Despite a joint statement from foreign ministers of 28 countries calling for an end to Israel’s war in Gaza, the killing and famine persist. Over 59,000 Palestinians have died, with more than 144,000 injured. While many countries recognize Palestine, none have imposed effective sanctions on Israel, maintaining billion-dollar trade ties involving vehicles, chips, and vaccines. Israel rejected the statement, calling it disconnected from reality. Humanitarian pauses in Gaza are brief, with ongoing casualties, including deaths from famine and malnutrition.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has issued a direct threat to assassinate Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and warned of renewed strikes on Iranian territory. Iran has yet to officially respond. Earlier, Donald Trump remarked that while Khamenei is a vulnerable target, the U.S. had no immediate plans to remove him.

The Israeli Navy has hijacked the British-flagged relief ship Handala en route to the blockaded Gaza Strip. The vessel, carrying 21 unarmed personnel including doctors, parliament members, and volunteers, had departed from Italy with humanitarian aid such as food, formula, and medicine for Gaza’s children. The crew issued a distress call after spotting Israeli drones and naval ships approaching. This incident follows previous similar hijackings by Israel targeting ships delivering aid to Gaza, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region.

Following the intelligence failure on October 7, 2023, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have decided to mandate Arabic language and Islamic studies training for all members of their military intelligence branch, Aman. According to The Jerusalem Post, the move aims to enhance analytical capabilities within the force. By 2025, 100% of personnel will be trained in Islamic studies, and at least 50% will be proficient in Arabic, including dialects used in Yemen and Iraq. A senior IDF official admitted their current knowledge of local languages, cultures, and religions is insufficient. To address this, a new training division will be established, and the previously defunct “Telem” learning center will be revived.

Israel is currently examining a new ceasefire proposal submitted by Hamas in response to a previous offer. Hamas had initially submitted a proposal that was quickly rejected by Arab mediators for being unacceptable to the US and Israel. Following demands for a more constructive response, Hamas revised their demands, dropping some previous conditions. The latest proposal has been handed to mediators, but Israel is still thoroughly reviewing it. Mediators continue to push for a workable ceasefire solution between the parties.

Israel’s Knesset has passed a symbolic resolution by a vote of 71–13 supporting the annexation of the occupied West Bank, calling for the establishment of sovereignty over "Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley." While the motion is not legally binding, it signals potential legislative moves in the future. The proposal was introduced by far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who resides in an illegal settlement. The West Bank has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, deemed illegal under international law. The region is home to around 3 million Palestinians and 500,000 Israeli settlers.

Israel continues aggressive strikes against Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iran despite international criticism. Supported by the US, Israel feels empowered to expand settlements and launch military operations, killing thousands in Gaza and violating ceasefires. Iran’s recent retaliation surprised Israel, showing vulnerabilities. Regional dynamics shift as Saudi Arabia supports Syria and China-Russia may back Iran, potentially reducing Israel’s influence. Global distractions like the Russia-Ukraine war have allowed Israel’s actions to go largely unchecked, raising urgent questions about accountability and future stability.

Following recent Iranian missile attacks, Israel has replaced its Air Defense Forces Commander. Brigadier General K. will take over from Brigadier General G. in a leadership reshuffle approved by the Defense Minister and Chief of Staff. The change will be implemented in the coming months. Iran’s 12-day conflict with Israel exposed vulnerabilities in Israeli defense systems, prompting Iran to refine its missile strategies.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition government has lost its parliamentary majority after the ultra-Orthodox Shas party announced its exit. The decision follows long-standing tensions over mandatory military service, which the ultra-Orthodox community opposes. Earlier this week, another religious party also resigned from the coalition. While Shas has left the government, it has stated it won’t actively seek to topple it. Still, Netanyahu now faces increased challenges in passing legislation and governing effectively without a clear majority in parliament.

In response to Israel’s continued assault on Gaza, Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah forces launched three drone attacks on Israeli targets—two hitting military bases in the Negev and one striking Eilat port. The group has warned that attacks will persist unless the Gaza offensive stops.

On the same day, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed at least 61 people, including 23 in the Shati refugee camp and two aid workers. The UN has expressed alarm at rising malnutrition among Gaza’s children, as Israel continues to forcibly displace thousands, including in Jabalia.
