Israeli airstrikes on Gaza killed over 60 Palestinians in a single day, including 12 members of one family, and injured over 150 others. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the total death toll since Israel’s assault began in October 2023 has reached 51,355, with 117,248 people injured.

Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have claimed 45 more lives in the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll to over 51,305. More than 117,096 people have been injured since the conflict began. Rescue workers are still struggling to reach victims trapped under rubble. According to the UN, 85% of Gaza’s population has been displaced, and 60% of infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.

Israeli forces demolished multiple Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank on Monday, targeting properties in Ramallah and Hebron governorates, and destroying a residential building. They also damaged vehicles, olive trees, and other properties. Attacks were reported in Safarkha and Bidya towns. According to the UN, since Israel launched a new military campaign on January 21, nearly 40,000 Palestinians have been displaced.

Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, has recruited approximately 30,000 young men in Gaza. According to Saudi news outlet Al Arabiya, most of the recruits had previously received training at secret military camps run by Hamas. These new members are skilled in guerrilla warfare, rocket attacks, and explosive deployment, though gaps in their military capabilities remain. Meanwhile, Gaza’s Civil Defense Authority reports that at least 25 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday.

Since the onset of the Gaza war in October, Israeli forces have installed at least 119 iron gates across Palestinian villages in the West Bank, effectively locking residents inside. These gates are opened and closed at the discretion of Israeli forces. Locals report being stranded in harsh weather and facing restrictions that affect not only movement but also access to healthcare, education, agriculture, and livelihoods. “Each village now has a gate, like pens for livestock,” said Barghouti, a local resident.

Hamas has released a third video of Israeli hostage Elkana Bohbot, in which he is seen making a simulated phone call to his family and expressing his longing to return. “Keep doing everything for me! My health is not good, and I fear I may die,” he says, pleading with the Israeli government and the public. Hamas stated that they are willing to release all remaining hostages in exchange for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Fatima Hasoona, a 25-year-old Palestinian photojournalist from Gaza, was killed in an Israeli airstrike that also claimed the lives of 10 of her family members. Fatima had been documenting Israeli atrocities in Gaza for the past 18 months. A documentary about her work is set to be screened at a film festival in France next month. Before her death, she posted: “If I die, let my death roar. Let it not become just another headline or statistic. Let it be a death that etches itself into history—an image no one can erase.”

At least 70 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks on Friday, with most victims from Gaza City and northern Gaza. The widespread assault has pushed the death toll beyond 51,000 since October 23. Despite a ceasefire agreement, Israel continues to block the entry of food and essential aid into the Gaza Strip. This marks a further violation of the second agreement and worsens the humanitarian crisis.

Since the outbreak of war on October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have taken control of 185 out of Gaza’s 365 square kilometers—around 50% of the territory. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that 30% of Gaza has been turned into a “buffer zone,” displacing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya has announced that the group is ready to engage in comprehensive negotiations to release all hostages in exchange for a permanent ceasefire, the release of Palestinian prisoners by Israel, and reconstruction aid for Gaza. He ruled out any interim deal. This comes a day after Israeli airstrikes killed at least 35 people, including 13 members of one family in Khan Younis. Meanwhile, over 120,000 people have signed 43 petitions on the ‘Restart Israel’ platform, demanding an end to the war and the release of all captives.

April 17 marked Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, commemorating the 1974 release of Mahmoud Bakr Hijazi—the first Palestinian freed from Israeli prison. Since 1967, Israel has detained over one million Palestinians—around 20% of the population. The number of detainees has doubled from 5,250 in 2023 to nearly 10,000 by April 2025. Protests erupted across the West Bank as families demanded the release of loved ones.

Israel has proposed a 45-day ceasefire in Gaza, but Hamas has rejected the condition of complete disarmament. As per reports, during the first week of the proposed ceasefire, Hamas would release 10 live hostages in exchange for Israel freeing 120 Palestinians serving life sentences and over 1,000 detained since October 7, 2023. Prior to the March 18 ceasefire breakdown, the IDF would withdraw to previous positions. Palestinians would be allowed to cross the Netzarim corridor, humanitarian aid would resume, and infrastructure reconstruction would begin. Egypt, Qatar, and the U.S. would mediate negotiations aiming at a permanent end to hostilities. In the next phase, Hamas would provide evidence of living hostages and return the bodies of the deceased.

Israeli forces opened fire from helicopters in the city of Rafah on Wednesday. At least 23 Palestinians were killed in separate attacks across various enclaves since early morning. Heavy bombardments in the Jabalia refugee camp resulted in rising smoke plumes, while additional shelling was reported near Khan Yunis, close to the town of Al-Kabira.

Artillery fire also hit the Nuseirat and Bureij refugee camps in central Gaza. In the northern Jabalia camp, three people were killed. In the Al-Nafaq Street area of Tuffah neighborhood, at least 10 members of the Hasuna family were reportedly killed. Another airstrike in the Al-Shaf neighborhood resulted in three more civilian deaths.

For the first time, over 100 Jews were seen praying at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Wednesday, marking a significant deviation from long-standing agreements and customs. Historically, no more than 30 individuals were allowed to enter together, and while Jews could visit the compound, they were not permitted to pray there. This arrangement stems from a post-1967 agreement after Israel took control of East Jerusalem. Over 51,000 Palestinians have reportedly died since the Israeli offensive began more than 18 months ago.
