Rashed Pradhan, Vice President of the National Democratic Party (JAGPA), has alleged that India is obstructing Bangladesh’s acquisition of advanced fighter jets under the pretext of regional security. He accused the ruling Awami League of appeasing foreign powers while continuing to operate outdated aircraft for financial gain. Citing multiple accidents in 2015, 2018, and 2024, Pradhan demanded the decommissioning of obsolete aircraft and immediate modernization of the air force. He also called for prompt compensation and proper medical care for recent crash victims and questioned the delay in examination suspensions related to the incident.

BNP leader Lutfozzaman Babar is set to travel to China on Wednesday for medical treatment. Close sources report that Babar is suffering from multiple health complications resulting from his 17 years in prison. He chose China over Europe or Singapore to minimize treatment costs. His treatment, focusing on boosting immunity and addressing other health issues, is expected to last around two weeks. He is scheduled to return on August 5. Arrested in 2007, Babar was sentenced to death in several cases under both the caretaker government and the Awami League. However, he was acquitted of all charges following the fall of the previous government last year.

The United States has announced its decision to withdraw from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The U.S. government has accused UNESCO of being “anti-Israel,” “politically biased,” and overly reliant on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Washington also criticized the organization’s recognition of Palestine as a member state, stating it contradicts U.S. foreign policy. While the Trump administration had previously pulled out of UNESCO, the U.S. rejoined during the Biden era. The current decision, officials say, is driven by concerns over UNESCO's political stance.

Rushed to the burn unit with nearly 100% burns, she succumbed to her injuries. Maherin’s heroic act stands as a testament to the courage, dedication, and compassion of educators. She is survived by two school-aged children—one in Class 9 (age 14) and the other preparing for O-Levels (age 15/16).
