Iranian authorities have arrested 54 individuals accused of working with Israel’s Mossad spy agency during the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv. Prosecutors in Iran’s Khuzestan province said the suspects were charged with espionage, anti-state propaganda, spreading false information, and undermining national security and social stability. Since June 13, Israeli forces have been targeting Iran’s military and nuclear facilities, with Tehran responding in kind.

China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Fu Cong, addressing the UN Security Council, called on Israel to declare a ceasefire “as soon as possible” to prevent the situation from worsening. A trilateral meeting of foreign secretaries from Bangladesh, China, and Pakistan was held in China's Yunnan province on Friday. A student from the Finance Department of the University of Chittagong (CU) attempted suicide on Thursday after being denied the opportunity to have an exam script re-evaluated. The incident occurred when the student, disheartened by the lack of response from university authorities, tried to jump from the fifth-floor railing of the administrative building. A university employee intervened just in time and pulled him to safety. Sources say the student was the only one among 124 candidates in a final exam course to receive a failing grade. He claimed that his performance did not warrant failure and that a re-evaluation by a different examiner would prove he had passed, stating he missed the passing mark by just one point.

Dhaka continues to struggle with hazardous air quality, ranking 7th among the world’s 125 most polluted cities, according to Swiss-based air quality monitoring organization IQAir. The Air Quality Index (AQI) score for Dhaka currently stands at 122, which falls into the category deemed “unhealthy for sensitive groups.” Topping the list today is Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with an AQI of 147, followed by Batam, Indonesia (139), and Delhi, India (139). IQAir reports that prolonged exposure to such air conditions poses serious health risks, particularly to children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory issues.

GOP (Gonotantrik Oikko Parishad) leader Rashed Khan has called for a complete overhaul of the current system of governance under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, labeling it authoritarian and repressive. Speaking at a recent event, Khan said, “Reforming the state begins with dismantling the authoritarian model of governance introduced during Hasina’s rule. We have been crushed under the weight of her fascist system.” He emphasized the significance of public participation in past mass movements, especially in July 2024 and 2018, and praised the role of Jagannath University’s Journalist Association during the July uprising. However, he criticized the lack of reform in the media even after 10 months of the movement’s momentum. “Politics must be knowledge-based and competitive, grounded in merit,” he added.
