A student from the Finance Department of the University of Chittagong (CU) attempted suicide on Thursday after being denied the opportunity to have an exam script re-evaluated. The incident occurred when the student, disheartened by the lack of response from university authorities, tried to jump from the fifth-floor railing of the administrative building. A university employee intervened just in time and pulled him to safety. Sources say the student was the only one among 124 candidates in a final exam course to receive a failing grade. Dhaka continues to struggle with hazardous air quality, ranking 7th among the world’s 125 most polluted cities, according to Swiss-based air quality monitoring organization IQAir. GOP (Gonotantrik Oikko Parishad) leader Rashed Khan has called for a complete overhaul of the current system of governance under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, labeling it authoritarian and repressive.
