Egypt is constructing a massive new administrative capital 45 km east of Cairo to ease congestion and pollution. Covering 700 sq km, the city will house over 6 million people. China’s CSCEC is leading construction and will manage the city under a bilateral deal. The $3.8 billion project includes government buildings, embassies, and Africa’s tallest skyscraper. Over 30,000 officials have moved in. The initiative strengthens China-Egypt ties, aligning with China’s Belt and Road ambitions and increasing its investment in Egypt.
The Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) has issued a recruitment notice to fill 38 positions across 12 different roles, including manager, accountant, technician, and office assistant. Applicants from all districts are eligible, and online applications open on May 12, 2025, and close on June 11, 2025. Candidates must meet educational and experience requirements as specified per position. Written, oral, and practical exams will be conducted where applicable. Former US President Donald Trump has described Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg as “an angry young woman” and suggested that she needs anger management classes. Trump’s comments came after the Israeli Navy detained Thunberg and several other activists in international waters while they were attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza by boat. Israel described the vessel as a “celebrity selfie yacht” and stated that the passengers would soon be returned to their respective countries.
Gopalganj District Awami League General Secretary GM Shahabuddin Azam was arrested by immigration police at Benapole checkpost on Tuesday morning while attempting to flee to India. Elias Hossain Munshi, Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Immigration, stated that intelligence reports had warned of Shahabuddin’s escape attempt, prompting heightened vigilance at the border. Around 11 AM, Shahabuddin submitted his passport at the immigration desk and was arrested after verification. Several cases have been filed against him.
BNP leader Khairul Kabir Khokon has stated that the nation is unsafe in the hands of unelected individuals. Speaking at a political event, Khokon urged that power be restored to the people. The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed 20 Bangladeshi nationals into Bangladesh across the Dinajpur and Thakurgaon borders on Monday night. All of them were later detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Of the 20, 13 were pushed in through the Enayetpur border in Biral upazila—two women, two men, and nine children. Another seven were pushed through Chanduria border in Pirganj upazila, including two women, two men, and three children.

Two rival groups clashed in Alamsree village of Nayekpur Union in Madan, Netrokona on Monday evening, leaving at least 18 people injured, including several women. Among them, five are in critical condition and currently undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Locals said the conflict erupted over allegations of theft. Reportedly, around Tk 6,000 was stolen from the general store of a resident named Sohel Mia. Accusations were made against Kayyum Mia, son of Salem Uddin from the same village. Although Salem admitted his son’s involvement and offered Tk 2,000 as compensation along with an apology, Sohel rejected the offer, leading to the violent clash.
A businessman’s residence in Puthia, Rajshahi, was reportedly vandalized, looted, and set on fire allegedly under the leadership of a local BNP leader. According to the victim, the attack stemmed from his refusal to pay a Tk 500,000 extortion demand. The businessman has filed a written complaint with the police, alleging that Rafiqul Islam, Vice President of the Baneshwar Union BNP, had been repeatedly pressuring him for the money since early August. Following his continued refusal, the attack was allegedly carried out by Rafiqul and his associates.
A luxury Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was discovered in the parking area of a multi-story building in Kushtia town.
