Unidentified attackers set fire to the home of Central Chhatra Dal’s Assistant General Secretary Zubaida Islam Zerin in Matlab Uttar. The fire quickly spread to multiple rooms, reducing everything to ashes before firefighters could bring it under control. Locals reported that after the Taraweeh prayer, a group of unidentified individuals arrived on five motorcycles, and shortly after, the house was set ablaze. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has issued an official notice imposing a 58-day ban on fishing in Bangladesh’s maritime waters from April 15 to June 11. The prohibition applies to all types of fishing vessels and fish species. Fishermen, however, have raised concerns that during Bangladesh’s fishing ban, Indian fishermen continue to enter Bangladesh’s waters for about 39 days, causing significant losses to local fishermen. To address this, the government has adjusted the ban period, ensuring that Bangladesh’s restriction ends two days before India’s fishing ban begins.

Education Advisor C.R. Abrar has stated that the government is committed to governance and reforms in the education sector to overcome challenges. Transport workers have suspended bus services between Bogura and the rest of the country following the stabbing of two labor leaders on Wednesday. Reports indicate that on Tuesday evening, motor labor union leaders Anwar Hossain Rana and Hazrat Ali were assaulted and stabbed. Both are currently receiving treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (Shajimec). A court has approved different durations of remand for former ministers Hasanul Haq Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, Anisul Haque, Dipu Moni, and former MP Sadeq Khan in connection with various cases. In the case of the shooting death of Shahid Obaidul Islam in Jatrabari, the court granted a four-day remand for Inu, Menon, and Dipu Moni. Meanwhile, in the case of Shahid Md. Demanding permanent employment status, Bangladesh Railway gatekeepers and gatemen have declared an indefinite strike starting March 24, including a railway blockade. A Dhaka court has remanded former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and ex-Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasan in connection with two murder cases linked to mass uprisings in Jatrabari. A mortar shell was found at a scrap shop in Ekrampur, Kishoreganj, on Tuesday night. The shop owner, Tutul Mia, noticed the explosive among other discarded items and immediately called emergency services. Police secured the area, and army personnel later placed the shell in a sand-filled container. Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that the shop has been sealed for safety, and an investigation is underway.

Former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar has been acquitted of a 17-year prison sentence in an arms possession case. The case, filed on June 3, 2007, at Gulshan police station, led to his conviction on October 30 of the same year by a special tribunal. Babar appealed against the verdict, and the case was stayed by the High Court. He was released from Dhaka Central Jail on January 16 this year.

The Attorney General’s office announced on Wednesday that the state has appealed against the acquittal of Tarique Rahman and all other accused in the August 21 grenade attack case. The hearing is expected today. On December 1, a court had acquitted them, despite a 2018 verdict sentencing former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar and BNP leader Abdus Salam Pintu to death, while Tarique Rahman and 18 others received life imprisonment.
