An audio clip has surfaced on social media in which an expelled BNP leader from Patuakhali’s Baufal Upazila threatens to kill a leader of the student wing of BNP. The threat follows the expulsion of Enayet Hossain Khan, former General Secretary of Nazirpur-Tanterkathi Union, BNP, on March 9 due to allegations of looting and extortion. Romiz Uddin Howlader has since been appointed as the acting general secretary of the Union in his place.

Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack on Moscow, with dozens of UAVs targeting the Russian capital. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin claimed on Telegram that the defense ministry successfully repelled the attack, shooting down 58 drones. Emergency response teams are working in affected areas. The attack comes ahead of high-level US-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia regarding efforts to end the war.

The CSS Foundation has officially released a list of madrasa students and Islamic scholars who were killed during the mass uprising against government forces in July. The list includes 42 names, along with their permanent addresses and verified details. Each entry was validated through direct communication with families and 19 essential verification documents. Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of BNP, contacted the grieving family of JCD activist Apurba (25), who was fatally stabbed in Narayanganj while attempting to stop a dispute. Expressing condolences, Rahman reassured Apurba’s parents that many BNP activists had suffered deaths, disappearances, and brutal persecution while resisting injustice. He urged authorities to swiftly arrest the perpetrators. Apurba’s father lamented that their family had been subjected to 16 years of harassment for their BNP affiliation.

A BNP leader was assaulted and forcibly taken to a police station in Narayanganj’s Signboard area by a rival faction within the party. The attack was linked to an extortion dispute in the transport sector. Former JCD leader Abdur Rahman, who had previously filed a case against ex-BNP leader Mamun and his associates, was angered by the police’s failure to arrest Mamun. Upon learning Mamun was at the station, Rahman and his supporters rushed there, captured him as he tried to flee, and continued beating him inside the officer-in-charge’s room. Allegedly, Mamun controlled extortion activities in the area.

A violent clash erupted between two BNP factions in a border area of Sunamganj over extortion from Indian limestone transporters. The confrontation, lasting from evening until 10 PM, resulted in the death of Mohammad Ali (60), a BNP-affiliated individual, and left at least 20 others injured. The dispute reportedly stemmed from ongoing tensions between local JCD leader Harunur Mahmud and former Jubo Dal leader Hazrat Ali.

Police have blocked a march towards the Chief Adviser’s office organized by the platform ‘Against Rape and Oppression in Bangladesh’, which was demanding the removal of the Home Adviser and the formation of special tribunals, among other demands. The protesters clashed with the police during the march. The demonstration, which started from the Raju Memorial Sculpture, was headed to deliver a memorandum. They were stopped in front of the Hotel Intercontinental, where tensions escalated into a heated verbal exchange with police. Following this, police resorted to baton charges twice. A scuffle ensued when the protesters retaliated, resulting in injuries on both sides.

NCP leader Samantha Sharmin has called for a Constituent Assembly to rewrite the constitution, stating it as the party’s primary goal. However, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed opposed the idea. Sharmin suggested BNP’s objection is to holding the Constituent Assembly and parliamentary elections together, but NCP never proposed that. She emphasized that those elected to the assembly would transition into lawmakers post-constitution drafting, ensuring no short- or long-term complications. Students from 30 colleges gathered at Shahbagh to protest violence against women and demand the highest punishment for rapists. Initially planning to blockade the area, they withdrew the program considering public inconvenience during Ramadan. Instead, they are staging a sit-in near the National Museum until evening. Among the participating institutions are Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, Bir Shreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College, Dhaka City College, Notre Dame College, and Dhaka College.

The High Court has issued a rule questioning why authorities’ inaction on banning high-interest personal loans and informal lending should not be declared illegal. The chairman of the Microcredit Regulatory Authority has been instructed to resolve the petition regarding the prohibition of such lending within two months. Additionally, the Finance Secretary, Home Secretary, and other relevant authorities have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.

The decision to revoke Ziaur Rahman’s Independence Award from 2003 has been reversed. At the same time, the list of individuals selected for the ‘Independence Award 2025’ has been announced. This year, seven distinguished individuals will be awarded the ‘Independence Award 2025’. The recipients are: Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam (posthumous) for Science and Technology, Mir Abdus Shukur Al Mahmud (posthumous) for Literature, Novira Ahmed (posthumous) for Culture, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed (posthumous) for Social Service, Mohammad Mahbubul Haq Khan (posthumous) for Liberation War and Culture, Badaruddin Mohammad Omar for Education and Research, and Abrar Fahad (posthumous) for Defiant Youth.

Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has stated that several hundred million dollars in laundered funds could be recovered within this year. Following a meeting of the Advisory Council, he explained that the government is actively working to bring back illicit funds transferred abroad. Professor Dr. A.K.M. Riazul Hasan, Chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), has stated that Rakhal Raha and Gazi Salauddin Ahmed Tanvir have no involvement in the procurement of paper for printing textbooks. Addressing recent allegations, he dismissed claims that Rakhal Raha was engaged in a Tk 400 crore commission business related to textbook paper procurement, calling it baseless propaganda. “The total paper purchase amounted to approximately Tk 102 crore. The claim of a Tk 400 crore commission is completely illogical,” he said. He further clarified that reports accusing NCTB of commission-based trading in paper procurement are false and misleading. Additionally, he emphasized that textbook revisions were carried out as a collaborative effort, not by a single individual.
