He also mentioned his anticipation of the Chief Adviser's visit to Malaysia in July.
Dr. Redwan Ahmed, Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered $100 million, 10 parliamentary seats, and two ministerial positions to him and Colonel Oli Ahmed in exchange for contesting the 2014 elections. Redwan stated that they rejected the offer, as they believe in serving the people rather than personal gains.
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping has held a bilateral meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. The meeting took place at 10 AM local time on Friday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Later, Professor Yunus is scheduled to participate in an 'Investment Dialogue' with Chinese business leaders at Presidential Beijing. The Chief Adviser is expected to return home on March 29 after his four-day visit to China.
Akhtar Hossain, Secretary of the National Coordination Party (NCP), has stated that elections will only take place after visible reforms in governance and judicial processes. Speaking at a public rally in Rangpur-4, he criticized the Awami League and Jatiya Party, accusing them of staging three “dummy elections” and supporting the July genocide. Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh’s camps are undergoing military training in Myanmar’s jungles, preparing for a return to their homeland. According to British newspaper The Independent, Rohingya fighters are frequently relocating training camps to avoid detection. BNP leader Khairul Kabir Khokon has criticized the ruling Awami League, calling its leaders “refugee freedom fighters.” He claimed that while Ziaur Rahman announced independence and fought on the battlefield, Awami League members fled to India and lived in luxury hotels during the 1971 Liberation War. A sedition case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. CID claims an online meeting on December 19, 2024, discussed forming a “Joy Bangla Brigade” to reinstate Hasina through civil war. The court has accepted the case and ordered an investigation.
Vandals set fire to a grove of 700 trees in Baidergaon, Munshiganj, on Wednesday night, destroying 300 mango trees, 200 lemon trees, and over 100 other trees. A local farmer suspects an act of personal vengeance behind the arson attack. Residents believe the perpetrators used petrol or kerosene to ignite the fire. China will provide duty-free and quota-free access for Bangladeshi products until 2028, extending benefits for two years after Bangladesh transitions to a developing country. A ministerial-level committee has recommended the withdrawal of 6,681 cases that were allegedly filed against political leaders and activists as acts of harassment. The Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry announced the recommendation on Thursday, following discussions in nine committee meetings led by Adviser Asif Nazrul. Previously, the Home Ministry had formed two separate committees to address politically motivated cases.
Sanjida Khatun, one of the founders of Chhayanaut, has donated her body to the Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) Anatomy Department for scientific research. She made this decision in 1998, intending to contribute to medical science. The BMU Anatomy Department officially received her remains on Thursday, with her family members present.
The Bangladesh Bank has revised the daily and monthly transaction limits for mobile financial services (MFS) such as bKash, Nagad, and Rocket. Under the new regulations, customers can now cash in up to BDT 50,000 per day and BDT 300,000 per month. Previously, the limits were BDT 30,000 per day and BDT 200,000 per month. Similarly, the daily cash-out limit has been increased to BDT 30,000, while the monthly cash-out cap is now BDT 200,000, up from BDT 150,000. The maximum account balance limit has also been raised from BDT 300,000 to BDT 500,000.
