Economic Advisor Dr. Salehuddin announced that the budget for FY 2025-26 will be unveiled this coming June. The government aims to bring down post-Rozar inflation to a 7–8 percent range. Mahfuz Alam is set to become the new Information Adviser in the interim government following Nahid Islam’s resignation on Tuesday. The Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) has been shut down indefinitely for security reasons following an emergency syndicate meeting on Tuesday. All students have been instructed to vacate their dormitories by Wednesday at 10 AM. The US has imposed sanctions on four Indian companies for their involvement in selling and transporting petroleum products to Iran. According to the US State Department, the sanctioned entities include Flux Maritime LLP, BSM Marine LLP, Austinship Management Pvt Ltd, and Cosmos Lines Inc. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notification reassigning 82 police officers, including an Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP), as Officers on Special Duty (OSD). Abdur Rahman, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), has stated that no other nation in the world pays as little tax as Bangladesh. “We have become a debt-ridden nation,” he said, adding that the country has expanded its budget every year for the past 52-53 years by taking on more loans. Police have arrested 13 muggers in Dhaka’s Uttara area within the last 24 hours, recovering machetes, knives, iron rods, and pipes from their possession. Additionally, RAB has detained student leader Sakibul Hasan Rony, also known as “Lara De Sunny” (24), who was involved in attacks on students. The officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station confirmed the arrests on Tuesday. Sakibul, a leader of the banned Chhatra League’s East Thana branch and head of the Kishoregang “Lara De” gang, had allegedly led attacks in Uttara and Azimpur under instructions from former MPs Khosru Chowdhury and Habib Hasan during the July uprising.
