The recognition was granted on Monday, June 15, 2026, under the Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 2013. According to the certificate, the product’s registration number is 64, and the registration date is May 20, 2024. Hazari molasses, produced for generations across different parts of Manikganj, is widely known for its distinctive taste, quality, and cultural heritage. The GI recognition is expected to enhance the product’s reputation and open new market opportunities both nationally and internationally. Local residents expressed joy over the certification, describing it as a matter of pride and fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. The trial of former Superintendent of Police Anisur Rahman and seven others has begun at International Crimes Tribunal-1 over the 2016 incident in which two Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders were allegedly shot and crippled by police in Jhikargacha, Jashore. The prosecution opened its arguments on Tuesday, followed by testimony from victim Israfi Hossain, who recounted the events leading to his arrest and subsequent shooting. According to Israfi’s testimony, he and fellow Shibir leader Ruhul Amin were detained by police on August 3, 2016, after being stopped near Bandalitola village. Two police officers were injured in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, when a group of robbers attacked them with sharp weapons during a police raid on June 16, 2026. A Cumilla court has denied bail to Shibir central leader Jisan, who was arrested in a case involving allegations of rape and forced abortion. After two hours of dramatic developments, he was brought from Cumilla Medical College Hospital to the Judicial Magistrate Amli Court-3 on Tuesday afternoon. Judge Taiyeb Uddin Ahmed rejected his bail plea and ordered that he be sent to jail. Earlier, controversy arose over whether Jisan was medically fit to appear in court. Jahangirnagar University has granted full exemption from punishment to 16 Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders involved in the July attack case. Out of 189 punished leaders, 43 had appealed for reconsideration. The decision was made at a syndicate meeting held early Tuesday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, and announced by Registrar A.B.M. Azizur Rahman. Switzerland has expressed interest in participating in ground handling operations at the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. A mobile court in Barishal’s Gournadi upazila sentenced a 26-year-old man named Bikash Chandra Bala to one year of imprisonment without labor for torturing his parents when they delayed giving him money for drugs. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, June 16, in Harisena village under Gournadi municipality. The sentence was handed down by Executive Magistrate Md. Mehedi Hasan. According to Faizul Islam Hridoy Hawlader, Sub-Inspector of the Department of Narcotics Control, Gournadi Circle, Bikash had long been addicted to drugs and frequently assaulted his parents and damaged their home when denied money. His parents had previously sold land to send him abroad, but he returned and resumed drug use under the influence of peers. He had also spent six months in a rehabilitation center before relapsing. Authorities arrested Bikash with 100 grams of cannabis during a raid in Harisena village, conducted with the assistance of local union chairman Soikat Guha Pikul. The mobile court also fined him 5,000 taka in addition to the prison sentence.
