While visiting a model mosque under construction in Ramu, Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain warned that no mismanagement in Hajj operations will be tolerated. He assured that any allegations of corruption against Hajj agencies will be promptly investigated and necessary actions will be taken without delay. He added that the Ministry of Religious Affairs is in continuous communication with all Hajj agencies this year to ensure quality service for pilgrims. The adviser also expressed dissatisfaction over the mosque’s slow progress and instructed that construction must be completed within the next three months.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir left for Singapore on Sunday for medical treatment, accompanied by his wife Rahat Ara Begum. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against Awami League Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud and his wife, Nuran Fatema, for allegedly amassing illegal wealth. Investigations revealed transactions worth Tk 722.91 crore across 65 bank accounts. Hasan is accused of possessing unexplained wealth worth Tk 1.11 crore, while Nuran is accused of acquiring Tk 5.52 crore beyond known sources of income.

BNP Vice Chairman Abdus Salam Pinto alleged an international conspiracy to destabilize Bangladesh, claiming that Sheikh Hasina and her party are behind it. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Sunday that a Bangladeshi medical team has treated 457 patients in Myanmar following the recent earthquake, including 15 complex surgeries. According to the statement, the team provided medical services at Naypyidaw’s Zabuthiri Township Hospital (50 beds), a 100-bed hospital, and a 1,000-bed general hospital. On Sunday alone, 50 patients received medical attention, and three major surgeries were successfully conducted. Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam has announced the establishment of a robust legal framework to ensure accountability for human trafficking crimes. Enhanced border security and awareness initiatives have been implemented as part of the government’s broader national action plan. The plan includes systematic victim identification, needs assessment, and integration with appropriate service providers. A dedicated special tribunal has also been set up to expedite human trafficking cases. “We are expanding mutual legal assistance mechanisms to strengthen cooperation with BIMSTEC member states and other countries in combating human trafficking,” the adviser stated.

The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for April has been set at Tk 1,450 for a 12-kg cylinder, remaining unchanged from the previous month, according to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC). In addition, the price of autogas has been slightly reduced by Tk 0.02, now set at Tk 66.41 per liter. Last month, the price of a 12-kg LPG cylinder was decreased by Tk 28, down from Tk 1,478. Autogas prices were previously increased by Tk 1.31 per liter, reaching Tk 66.41 inclusive of VAT.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged to protect Britain’s trade interests in response to former US President Donald Trump’s proposed “reciprocal tariffs.” While reaffirming the UK’s commitment to pursuing an economic agreement with the US, Starmer criticized the minimum 10% tariffs imposed on British goods, describing them as a significant threat. French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a tripartite summit with Egypt and Jordan in response to the Gaza crisis. “Responding to the emergency in Gaza and at the invitation of President el-Sisi, I will travel to Cairo for a summit with the Presidents of Egypt and Jordan,” Macron wrote. He will arrive in Cairo on Sunday evening and meet with President el-Sisi on Monday morning. According to the Élysée Palace, the summit will take place later the same day in Cairo. Macron will also visit the Egyptian port of El Arish, located 50 kilometers west of the Gaza Strip, to meet humanitarian and security personnel and promote efforts toward a ceasefire.

Speaking at a prize-giving ceremony marking International Day of Sport, Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud announced plans to build sports hubs in all eight divisions of Bangladesh with the support of the United Arab Emirates. “From the beginning, we envisioned a centralized sports village. Now, with the UAE’s support and our decentralization plan, we’ll establish sports hubs across the country,” he said. While initial discussions had taken place with China, the Chief Adviser addressed the matter during a recent UAE visit, where Emirati officials expressed willingness to help. Asif Mahmud added that discussions are also underway to develop indoor sports facilities and federation offices on land owned by the National Sports Council in Gulshan.
