3,946 Tourists Visit Lawachara National Park in Four Days, Environmentalists Concerned

An expatriate from Katiadi upazila has been unable to build his home for 15 years due to threats and interference by local Awami League-affiliated figures, Golap Mia and Dhalai Mia. Despite attempts to resolve the issue, their relatives, including former police DIG Abdul Kahar Akand and local chairman Abul Kashem Akand, continue to exert influence. After a violent incident in May, the expatriate filed a complaint with police, who are now investigating the matter.

A 19-year-old youth named Jihan Mia has been arrested for attempting to rape a five-year-old girl visiting her grandparents in Bhairab, Kishoreganj. The child’s father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. According to Bhairab Police Station OC Khondoker Fuad Ruhani, Jihan was arrested the same night following the incident. The child has been sent to the hospital for medical examination.

Man Attempts to Rape 5-Year-Old Girl Visiting Grandparents in Bhairab

Police have arrested three individuals, including the night guard of IFIC Bank's sub-branch in Keraniganj, Dhaka, for stealing Tk 15.3 lakh during the Eid holidays. The suspects entered the bank by breaking a washroom exhaust fan, disabled the CCTV system, and looted the vault. Tk 15.2 lakh has been recovered, along with robbery tools and the DVR device. The suspects confessed during interrogation, and police are also investigating the bank manager’s possible involvement in the incident.

Dulal Mia, who was abducted from the border area of Alikadam in Bandarban nine days ago, has been rescued from Myanmar-based drug traffickers. Authorities secured his release without paying the demanded ransom of Tk 2.5 million. He was abducted on June 3 while selling cattle in the Gorjanpara area. Dulal’s companion, Mohammad Zainal, narrowly escaped abduction. According to Kurukpata UP Chairman Kratpong Mro, the kidnappers claimed the abduction was in retaliation for a previous incident in which locals allegedly robbed them of Tk 2.5 million worth of yaba tablets.
