Police have arrested three men in connection with the mugging of a Chinese citizen in Chattogram. The arrested individuals—Mohammad Hridoy, Raju Majumder, and Ferdous—allegedly threatened the victim with a knife and stole his mobile phone along with 35,000 taka. The incident took place on June 9 at the main gate of the BEPZA residential area when the victim, Zheng King Zhin, an official at New Era Fashion BD, was shopping.
Three Arrested for Mugging Chinese National in Chattogram
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has called for a coordinated response among all health-related institutions in the city to face a potential new wave of COVID-19. Speaking at an emergency meeting, he urged joint efforts as four cases have already been confirmed locally. The CCC will launch a COVID-19 helpline and prepare dedicated hospitals. The BNP Central Committee has given the Faridpur district and city units until July to form their new committees. In a letter signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on June 2, the central body instructed that all local units must complete their formation by early July, with the district conference scheduled by July 12. Failure to meet the deadline will result in the dissolution of the committees. Local leaders have pledged to comply with the directive.

Faruk Hossain Nurnabi has resigned from his position as Secretary of the Lakshmipur District unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, citing personal reasons. He submitted his resignation to district Ameer S.U.M. Around 200 meters of the embankment protecting the Padma Bridge project area has collapsed into the Padma River, endangering at least 600 families in four nearby villages. Thirteen homes and two shops have already been relocated. The Water Development Board attributed the erosion to rising river water levels and strong currents. A similar breach was first observed last November, with renewed erosion reported last Saturday, leaving residents in panic. Repair works are currently underway.
