The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an operation at Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) over allegations of corruption and irregularities in promotions. The investigation was triggered after Rupak Chandra Dash, who had failed the examination for Assistant Engineer (Electrical), was controversially promoted to the position of Sub-Assistant Engineer. Once the incident came to light, the promotion was revoked. The involvement of CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain—whose signature appears on all related documents—has raised public concerns over the transparency of the administration. The ACC has collected relevant records and statements from the mayor, CEO, and secretary and is expected to submit a full report soon.

BNP leader Ishraq Hossain stated in a Facebook post, “Even if they come to my residence to administer the oath, it won’t change anything.” He highlighted two key demands: all political party representatives in the interim government must resign immediately, and any court decision must be implemented lawfully, regardless of whom it favors. Notably, Ishraq's supporters have been staging continuous protests for six consecutive days demanding that he be sworn in as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation.

Following the recent blockade in Dhaka’s Kakrail area by workers of TNZ Garments demanding overdue wages, the Ministry of Labour held an emergency meeting and reached five critical decisions:
1. The workers’ dues will be paid within seven working days through the sale of the owner’s house and the company’s washing plant.
2. Labour leaders will withdraw their siege of the Labour Building.
3. As the TNZ Group owner is currently abroad, the government will initiate a red alert through Interpol for his return.
4. A travel ban has been imposed on directors and management personnel associated with TNZ.
5. The company’s finance director will remain under government custody until workers’ payments are cleared.

Adviser Sharmin S. Murshid has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for women in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. She called for more effective activities from the Department of Social Services and the Department of Cooperatives in these areas. Murshid emphasized that the government is working for the welfare of marginalized women and urged all officials to actively contribute to establishing women’s rights across society.

Samim Ahmed, President of the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA), stated that India’s sudden trade restrictions have severely impacted the plastic sector. “The Northeastern states of India were a key market for us. Transporting goods there was relatively cost-effective,” he said. “Sending goods through alternative routes would make exports unprofitable.” He also emphasized that the industry will abide by any decision taken by the Ministry of Commerce regarding trade with India.

Protesters demanding the swearing-in of Ishraque Hossain as mayor have issued an ultimatum: administer the oath by 10 AM on Wednesday or face a complete city shutdown. Former secretary Mashiur Rahman warned that harsher action, including halting garbage collection, would follow if the demand is not met. The City Corporation Employees Union announced that all civic services—including waste management, sanitation, and power-related services—would be suspended from Wednesday morning unless the demand is fulfilled.

BNP leader Professor Nargis Begum declared that the people of Bangladesh no longer wish to see delays or manipulations regarding elections. “The future of the country must be built according to the people’s vision, and their voting rights must be restored immediately,” she said. Calling for a peaceful and fair election environment, she added, “BNP has never compromised the interest of the people. For the past 17 years, we have stood firm against the fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina. Our movement will end with the restoration of people’s voting rights.”

Around midnight on Sunday, two young men were standing by the roadside in Central Road under New Market police station when two others on a motorcycle approached them. In a sudden and brutal attack, three individuals began assaulting one of the youths. One assailant knocked him to the ground and repeatedly stabbed him with a knife before fleeing the scene. The victim has been identified as Saif Hossain Munna, a BNP activist. He is currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pangu Hospital). A case has been filed. Police have named the attackers as MC Shuvo, Rana, and Mobarak—three individuals who arrived on two motorcycles.

Three anti-discrimination activists detained in Dhanmondi over allegations of inciting a mob and verbally attacking a publisher were released into the custody of NCP leader Hannan Masud. Dhanmondi Police OC Kayshenu confirmed that the decision was made after a senior coordinator and family members intervened. The released individuals are Saiful Islam Rabbi (Convenor, Mohammadpur), Afarhan Sarkar Dinar (Senior Joint Secretary, Dhaka Metropolitan Unit), and Md. Ullah Jisan. The anti-discrimination platform later announced Rabbi’s removal from his organizational role due to alleged moral misconduct.

Indian authorities have arrested 11 individuals on charges of spying for Pakistan. According to officials, nine of the suspects were detained from the northern states of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Punjab Police Chief Gaurav Yadav stated on Monday that two of those arrested were involved in leaking sensitive military information. These individuals were allegedly involved in sharing classified intelligence related to a planned New Delhi strike deep inside Pakistani territory on the night of May 6–7. In Haryana, a travel blogger was also arrested last week on similar charges. Among the other detainees are a student, a security guard, and a businessman.

Gano Adhikar Parishad held a protest demanding the removal and arrest of DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz, whom they accuse of having links to the banned extremist group Hizb-ut Tahrir. The protest took place Tuesday afternoon in front of the DNCC office. Advisor Asif Mahmud claimed Ejaz’s appointment is a betrayal of the martyrs. Leader Farooq Hassan issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the government, warning that if Ejaz is not removed and arrested by then, a mass blockade of the Jamuna area would follow on Saturday.

Bangladesh has formally requested India to resolve the import restrictions on garments and several other goods via secretary-level bilateral trade talks. The Ministry of Commerce has sent a letter to the Indian government regarding the issue. Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman stated, “We are not planning any retaliatory measures. Instead, we want to show India that such restrictions hurt both sides and we must find a solution.” He added that consultations have been held with stakeholders to avoid further deterioration and assured that Bangladesh would continue engaging diplomatically.

In 2024, Bangladesh and Pakistan ranked among the top countries with the highest Schengen visa rejection rates. Citizens of Comoros faced the worst rejection rate at 62.8%, with 1,754 out of 2,853 applications denied. Bangladeshi applicants fared poorly as well—out of 39,345 applications, 20,957 were rejected, marking a rejection rate of 54.9%, up from 42.8% in 2023. Pakistani citizens filed 78,362 applications in 2024, of which 35,139 were rejected—a rejection rate of 47.5%.

At 11 AM on Tuesday, seven more individuals injured during the July uprising were sent to Thailand for advanced medical treatment. The patients are Md. Ashraful Alam, Md. Rakib Ul Islam, Md. Russell Hossain, Md. Tarun, Md. Sagar, Mehedi Hasan Khokon, and Abdul Jabbar. Authorities have announced that an additional 20 injured individuals will be sent abroad for treatment in the coming days. This brings the total number of injured protestors sent overseas for treatment to 47.
