Supporters of BNP’s Ishraq Hossain have warned of a city-wide blockade if he is not immediately sworn in as mayor. Under the leadership of SM Reza Selim and Anisuzzaman, Demra BNP leaders staged a siege at Dhaka South City Corporation headquarters, demanding Ishraq’s formal appointment. They argued that an elected mayor is far more accountable and capable of improving city infrastructure than an unelected administrator. The leaders warned that if their demand is not met, further action will be taken from Demra, including cutting off road access between Dhaka and eastern districts.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Dr. Helal Uddin declared that no fascist force defeated by the people has ever made a comeback—and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be no exception. “Her family knows this, which is why her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and others are acquiring foreign citizenship,” he claimed. He emphasized that Jamaat does not guarantee paradise but shows the path to it through establishing divine law. “Without establishing Islamic governance, true practice of Islam is not possible,” he said. He argued that to eliminate corruption like usury and bribery, the economic system must be reformed in line with Islamic principles.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, has urged political leaders to reassess their approach to securing Bangladesh’s fair share of Teesta River water. He criticized the ruling Awami League for aligning too closely with Indian interests, stating that even after a public uprising, India refuses to let Bangladesh prosper peacefully. Manna noted that unlike Pakistan, Bangladesh does not possess nuclear weapons or missiles to assert pressure and must therefore adopt smarter diplomatic strategies. He cited India’s gradual reduction of water promised in the Farakka agreement and questioned why the media remains silent about the issue. He also warned against handing over key national assets, such as the Chittagong port and internet infrastructure, to foreign entities.

He demanded the immediate announcement of the July movement to restore democratic power to the masses. Mazhar warned, “If the fascist strongholds of power are not dismantled like the one at 32 Dhanmondi, Bangladesh’s future will be bleak.”

India has officially acknowledged the destruction of a BrahMos missile base in Punjab, following a report by the National Radiological Safety Division. After the incident, radiation alerts were issued in the surrounding areas. Residents within a three-kilometer radius were evacuated, while those within five kilometers were instructed to stay indoors with all doors and windows shut. The situation raised serious concerns regarding public safety and environmental contamination. Notably, the missile base was reportedly damaged during a Pakistani strike on May 10—an event Pakistan has claimed responsibility for since the beginning.

Kader Gani Chowdhury, Secretary-General of the Federal Journalists' Union, has warned that the adverse impact of the Farakka Barrage is devastating the environment and livelihoods of millions in southwestern Bangladesh. He claimed at least 60 million people are suffering due to irrigation shortages, with 2,000 km of river routes rendered unusable and declining rice production in the Khulna region due to salinity. Biodiversity in the Sundarbans is also at risk. He accused India of failing to act as a responsible upper-riparian state and criticized successive governments for supporting the construction of the Tipaimukh Dam. He called for national unity against India’s ongoing “water aggression.”

BNP leader Zainul Abedin Farroque has stated that probing former President Abdul Hamid’s departure and the murder of Samya will serve no purpose, as “no one can be brought back.” Instead, he emphasized the urgent need for a free and fair election to restore peace and order in the country. On the corridor issue, he remarked that only an elected government can decide on such matters. “If fair elections are ensured, the souls of those martyred in the July movement will find peace,” he said.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz announced that 220 kilometers of canals across the capital will be excavated and cleared within this year to mitigate waterlogging.

According to CS records, the total length of canals in Dhaka once stood at approximately 340 kilometers, but 120 kilometers have since been buried under roads and other infrastructure. "In the past three months alone, we have managed to restore flow in 108 kilometers of canals," said Ejaz. "We are optimistic that the remaining 112 kilometers can be recovered and excavated by year’s end."

He added that the primary objective is to increase water flow to reduce urban flooding, especially during the monsoon. Environmental lawyer Syeda Rizwana Hasan is leading the initiative. Despite limited funding, Ejaz claimed the DNCC has been able to carry out the work effectively and economically.

The Judicial Employees Association has announced a two-day, half-day work stoppage on June 22 and 23 across all subordinate courts and tribunals in the country. The move comes in protest of the government's inaction on their key demands.

Spokesperson Rezwan Khondokar stated that auxiliary court staff observed a symbolic two-hour strike on May 5 as part of an ongoing series of demonstrations. However, the government has yet to take any visible steps toward meeting their demands.

The association is calling for two primary changes: the implementation of a separate judicial service pay scale for court employees, and the abolition of the "block post" system to establish a distinct recruitment policy. With no resolution in sight, the union is pressing forward with broader, more disruptive action.

Security concerns are escalating along the Sylhet border region as the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) continues its alleged push-in operations. In the latest incident, 14 men, women, and children were forcibly sent into Bangladesh through the Muraichhara border in Kulaura. Just a day earlier, 44 individuals were pushed in through the Barlekha border.

Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stated that during initial interrogation, the detainees revealed they were originally residents of Kurigram and Jashore districts. Although they had been living in India for years, recent crackdowns by Indian police and border guards led to their handover to BSF, who then used the opportunity to force them into Bangladesh.

In response, the BGB has ramped up patrols and surveillance across the border. Additionally, a Section 144 (prohibitory order) has been enforced across the international border in East Jaintia Hills of India’s Meghalaya state, further highlighting the growing tensions in the area.
