A Bangladeshi medical team has provided treatment to 227 people injured in a recent earthquake in Myanmar, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). On Friday alone, 150 patients received care, including two complex cancer surgeries and a critical orthopedic procedure. The team served at several facilities including the 1,000-bed General Hospital, the 50-bed Zabuthiri General Hospital, and the 100-bed Lewe Hospital, showcasing Bangladesh’s humanitarian commitment in the region.

A schoolteacher and marriage registrar, Mohammad Yusuf (47), has been arrested in Feni in connection with the 2017 attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade. The incident occurred on October 31, 2017, while she was returning from a visit to the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. The case was filed seven years later, on October 11, 2024, by Jubo Dal leader Sultan Md. Sikandar. Yusuf is a named accused in the case and also faces charges in an attempted murder case involving a Chhatra Dal leader, as well as allegations of illegally obtaining the marriage registrar position.

Police have arrested Monirul Islam Monir, former chairman of Barguna Sadar Upazila and ex-leader of the student wing of the ruling party, under the Special Powers Act. According to Officer-in-Charge Dewan Jaglul Hasan, Monir was apprehended during a special operation named “Devil Hunt” based on a tip-off. He faces multiple charges, including inciting unrest related to the country’s political situation.

In a shocking incident in Debidwar, Cumilla, a dispute over a cricket game led to an attack at a mosque, resulting in the death of its committee secretary, Ibrahim Khalil. RAB-11 has arrested two brothers, Zahid Hossain Bhuiyan (25) and Onik Bhuiyan (20), named in the FIR. The deceased, Ibrahim Khalil, was the general secretary of the Fathehabad Baitul Al Aqsa Jame Mosque committee and a resident of Fathehabad Dakshinpara in Debidwar Municipality.

Abu Hanif, a leader of Gano Adhikar Parishad, has accused the ruling Awami League of utilizing laundered money against the country’s interest. He stated that a people’s uprising has led to the formation of a government under Dr. Muhammad Yunus, which is striving to steer the country forward. Hanif called on all political parties to support this initiative. He proposed that the current administration should stabilize the nation, create a conducive environment for elections, and then go to the polls. Dr. Atik Mujahid, Joint Convener of the Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP), has said that the party may contest the upcoming parliamentary elections either independently or as part of an alliance, depending on necessity. A murder suspect named Aminul Islam (22) was beaten to death by an angry mob in Bagmara, Rajshahi, after allegedly stabbing a youth named Abdur Razzak (35) to death. The incident occurred in front of police officers, six of whom — including a sub-inspector — were injured while trying to intervene. Confirming the incident, the local police chief said the situation escalated quickly, and military assistance has been requested to restore order.

Islami Chhatra Shibir has strongly condemned India’s recently passed Waqf Amendment Bill, calling it a deliberate attack on the religious freedom and property rights of Muslims. In a joint statement, Shibir’s president and secretary stated that the law opens the door for government interference in mosques, madrasas, cemeteries, and shelters donated by Muslims. The bill mandates the inclusion of two non-Muslim members in Waqf boards, which they claim undermines the religious character of the institutions. Shibir demanded the immediate repeal of the bill.

Seventeen-year-old Hridoy Hossain, who was injured in police firing during the July uprising in Bauphal, Patuakhali, died while undergoing treatment at a local hospital. His father, Ansar Howlader, claimed the death was due to lack of adequate medical care. Hridoy, the youngest son of an autorickshaw driver, had been working as a construction laborer in Dhaka. After being shot on July 18 near Jatrabari Police Station, he was treated at Dhaka Medical for three months. Financial constraints forced his return home, where he was later admitted to the Upazila Hospital. He will be buried in his village after his funeral on Saturday. Local Jamaat leader Shafiqul Islam Masud expressed condolences.

Nadia Sultana, President of the Bangladesh Navy Family Welfare Association, visited 7-year-old Basit Khan Musa at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. Musa was critically injured by gunfire during the July uprising and returned to Bangladesh Thursday night after five months of treatment in Singapore. Nadia inquired about his condition and discussed his medical progress with doctors, according to an ISPR press release.
