NCP leader Sarjis Alam asserted that the party has legally secured its right to the lotus election symbol. “If needed, NCP will go to the streets or the courts to claim its rightful symbol,” he declared. Alam emphasized the party’s demand for visible justice and reforms based on the July Charter. NCP Defends Right to Use Lotus Symbol, Threatens Legal and Street Action

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus clarified that the Awami League has not been banned, nor has its registration been suspended—only its political activities have been halted temporarily. “Awami League remains a valid party. Their activities could be reinstated at any time,” Yunus said. However, he stressed that the suspension prevents them from engaging in political activities for now. On whether the party could contest elections, Yunus said the Election Commission must provide clarification, as it is responsible for conducting polls. He further stated that while Awami League has supporters, their claim of having “millions” is exaggerated. Supporters would still be able to vote, but without the party symbol. He accused Awami League of violence and impunity, alleging the party has consistently shifted blame for its actions onto others.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mia Golam Porwar announced that the party will launch a nationwide public outreach campaign from October 1 to 9, followed by countrywide rallies on October 10 and the submission of memorandums to district commissioners on October 12. Porwar accused the interim government of ignoring public demands and warned that Jamaat would be forced to take to the streets if the demands remain unmet. He reiterated the party’s call for elections in February based on the July Charter, cautioning that otherwise a street movement would ensue. Porwar also revealed that a new party logo was shown “experimentally” during a recent meeting, but stressed it was not final. He said the party’s previously announced five-point demands had gained public support, and Jamaat would continue to mobilize citizens behind them.

General Hasan added that premeditated violence erupted across the city, followed by clashes in Guimara that left three dead. He held UPDF responsible for the killings. Meanwhile, Section 144 remains in force in Khagrachhari for the third straight day, with checkpoints set up at entry and exit points.

Students of Eden Mohila College have rejected the draft ordinance proposing the establishment of Dhaka Central University combining seven affiliated colleges. In a written statement, the students accused the University Grants Commission (UGC) and drafting committee members of overstepping their mandate to create a “hybrid model.” They argued that without broad stakeholder participation, the ordinance will not solve existing problems. They called for a new education commission to develop a practical solution and urged the government to model the proposed university after Oxford University.

Lead investigator Md. Alamgir testified for the third consecutive day in the case against Sheikh Hasina and two others, stating that during the July–August uprising, killings took place at 438 locations across 41 districts, with lethal weapons used in over 50 districts. His testimony, broadcast live on BTV and the tribunal’s Facebook page, alleged that over the past 15 years, murders, disappearances, abductions, rigged elections, and staged militancy incidents all served to prolong Awami League’s grip on power. Alamgir added that security forces fired 305,000 rounds of ammunition during the July protests alone, based on official records. Meanwhile, the tribunal adjourned testimony in the Abu Sayeed martyrdom case as the witness fell ill, rescheduling for next Monday.
