Police in Patiya, Chattogram, have solved the mystery behind the killing of five-year-old Md. Jahhan, whose body was found 36 hours after he went missing. The child disappeared on Tuesday afternoon while playing near his home in the Eastpara area of Patiya municipality. Later that night, his father filed a general diary with Patiya Police Station. On Thursday morning, police recovered Jahhan’s body, packed in a sack, from a nearby drain. The main accused, neighbor Sadia Sultana Niha, along with her parents, was detained.

Investigators said Niha confessed to killing Jahhan with a hammer after luring him into her yard. To cover up the crime, she wrote a ransom note demanding three lakh taka, initially to frame a neighbor but later to mislead investigators. Police stated that Niha acted alone, while her parents tried to protect her after learning of the incident. Hundreds of locals later protested outside Patiya Police Station, demanding exemplary punishment.

Police officials confirmed that Niha admitted her involvement and will be sent to court for a statement under Section 164. A case is being processed, and further investigation is ongoing.

A female activist of the National Citizen Party (NCP) has accused two party leaders of sexually harassing her at a hotel bar in Chattogram. The allegations were made at a press conference on June 19, where the woman claimed that central leader A S M Suja Uddin and city leader Sadia Afrin lured her to the venue under the pretext of a meeting about party positions. She alleged that Suja Uddin behaved inappropriately, made indecent proposals, and tried to intimidate her when she refused.

According to the complainant, Sadia Afrin initially accompanied her to the hotel but later left, leaving her alone with Suja Uddin, who allegedly made repeated advances and offered political and financial incentives. The woman said she left the place after feeling unsafe. The incident reportedly occurred on June 14 at the Peninsula Hotel in Chattogram.

Chawkbazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nur Hossain Mamun confirmed that a general diary has been filed and the matter is under investigation. Authorities stated that the truth of the allegations will be determined after the investigation concludes.

Police in Banshkhali, Chattogram, arrested one suspected drug dealer and seized 10,000 yaba pills along with a truck used for transportation. The operation took place on Thursday night near Imandar Market on the Chattogram-Banshkhali regional highway, following a tip-off. The arrested individual was identified as Hafiz Hawlader, 28, from Bagerhat district. The truck, bearing registration number Dhaka-Metro-N-13-9205, had been parked suspiciously for a long time before being searched by police.

Sub-inspector Arif Hossain of Banshkhali Police Station confirmed the arrest and filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act against Hafiz Hawlader. Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Haque stated that police operations to eliminate drugs and yaba trafficking in the area will continue.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that those who do not respect the people's verdict cannot claim to be supporters of democracy. Police in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla have arrested two men accused of operating a lime factory using illegal gas connections. The arrests were made on Thursday night in the Kulubari area of Nabipur Paschim Union. According to the case, the illegal use of gas from a government line caused a financial loss of about Tk 16.1 million to the state.

The case was filed on June 16 by Kazi Abu Obayed, manager of the Debidwar branch of Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited (BGDCL). Investigators found that for six months, the factory had been drawing gas illegally from a two-inch BGDCL distribution line along the Kulubari-Nabinagar road. During the raid, officials seized four high-pressure hoses, four burner valves, and two service tees used in the illegal setup, and permanently disconnected the unauthorized line.

Muradnagar police said the two accused, Momen Mia of Debidwar and Md. Billal of Muradnagar, were sent to jail on Friday following their arrest under the BGDCL case.

Four Israeli soldiers, including a battalion commander, were killed in a Hezbollah attack in southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has established new secret cells in Iraq to carry out attacks on US military targets stationed in Gulf countries, according to a Reuters report citing eight Iraqi sources. The report states that three to four such cells have been formed, each consisting of about ten selected Iraqi Shia fighters. Between April 20 and May 17, these groups allegedly launched at least seven drone strikes from desert areas near Basra and Samawah toward targets in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Several members of these new units reportedly came from the group known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq. The sources said the cells operate outside the group’s usual command structure and report directly to the IRGC. Among the eight sources were two Iraqi military officers, one security official, and five local militia commanders.

The United Arab Emirates has announced a complete ban on social media use for children under the age of 15. The UAE Cabinet issued a directive setting 15 as the minimum age for accessing social media platforms. According to the government, all social media companies operating in the country, including Meta, TikTok, and X, must comply with the new regulation. Abdul Kuddus, a 50-year-old vegetable vendor, was stabbed to death late Thursday night in Jurain Nabarun Goli under Kadamtali Police Station in Dhaka. A supervisor named Alamgir Hossain, aged 48, was killed early Friday when a Shyamoli N.R. Travels passenger bus collided with a Souhardya Paribahan bus on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway at Harisardar area in Chauddagram, Cumilla. The incident was confirmed by Md. Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Miyabazar Highway Police Station.

According to police, the Souhardya bus, traveling from Chattogram to Dhaka, attempted to stop on the left side of the highway without using any signal. The Shyamoli bus following behind then hit it from the rear, causing damage to both vehicles. Alamgir Hossain, the supervisor of the Shyamoli bus, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said both buses involved in the accident have been recovered and kept at the station, and traffic movement on the highway has returned to normal.
