State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj announced that the government is implementing an integrated and long-term plan to make primary education in Bangladesh world-class. Speaking to the media at Agargaon Taltola Government Primary School after visiting several schools in Dhaka North City Corporation on Monday, he said the plan includes free uniform distribution, technology-based classrooms, a redesigned curriculum, teacher development policies, and infrastructure improvements.
Hajjaj explained that he has been visiting government primary schools across the country for the past four months to assess infrastructure, classroom environments, and teaching quality. Under the ongoing “Drishtinondon” modernization project, deficiencies in Dhaka’s schools are being evaluated. He also mentioned that the curriculum is being simplified and made more student-centered, while a comprehensive teacher policy covering recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and supervision is being developed.
The minister added that technology-driven initiatives such as video lessons, smart classrooms, and instant assessment systems are planned. He emphasized that the goal is not only infrastructure development but also a fundamental improvement in education quality under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami posted verse 24 from Surah Muhammad on its official Facebook page on Monday, quoting a line that questions whether people truly reflect on the Quran or if their hearts are locked. The post came amid global attention to Iran’s use of Quranic verses for diplomatic messaging during mourning events for its late Supreme Leader. Analysts suggest Jamaat’s post carried both religious and political undertones.
According to the report, the verse urges believers to think deeply about the Quran’s meaning rather than reciting it superficially. Jamaat has previously used this verse to imply that those rejecting divine law fail to understand the Quran’s guidance. Analysts interpret the post as a strategic effort to reinforce the party’s vision of an Islamic state and to portray secular or liberal opponents as spiritually misguided.
The verse also serves as internal motivation for Jamaat’s members, encouraging them to assess political realities through Quranic principles and remain active in ideological struggle. Observers view the post as part of the party’s broader effort to link its political mission with religious duty.

In a statement issued to the media on Monday, the party’s Secretary General, Mia Golam Porwar, conveyed condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the recovery of the injured.
Porwar stated that the landslide, which occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., claimed the lives of residents including Rohingya refugees living in the hilly areas. He blamed Myanmar’s military junta for forcing the Rohingya population to take shelter in vulnerable regions of Bangladesh and urged the international community and human rights organizations to take effective measures to ensure their dignified repatriation.
He further called on the government to provide financial assistance to the affected families and to take precautionary steps to relocate residents living at the foot of hills in Cox’s Bazar and other hilly districts to safer areas.

Hamas has announced the dissolution of the administrative body that governed Gaza for nearly two decades, paving the way for a new committee to oversee civilian affairs. Following the announcement, the so-called Board of Peace, controlled by U.S. President Donald Trump and his allies and lacking any Palestinian representation, issued a statement on social media platform X. The board said it had noted the dissolution of Gaza’s emergency committee but emphasized that its assessment would depend on concrete actions rather than promises to meet the urgent needs of Gaza’s population.
The statement drew criticism for highlighting the board’s perceived double standards. Despite repeated Israeli attacks that have violated the ceasefire agreement reached last October, the Board of Peace has offered little criticism of Israel while now demanding tangible steps from Hamas. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, since the ceasefire took effect, at least 1,072 people have been killed and 3,463 injured in Israeli strikes.
In the past 24 hours alone, five people were killed and seven injured in new attacks, with additional bodies recovered from the rubble, underscoring the ongoing humanitarian toll.

A four-year-old boy named Saeedul Alam Sami died after allegedly drinking acid-contaminated water from a betel shop in Hnila area of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The incident occurred on April 9 when Sami, a nursery student of Ideal Academy and High School, went to a nearby tea stall and was given battery acid water by a man named Kajol. After falling seriously ill, he was treated at several hospitals, including Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he died on Monday morning after two and a half months of treatment.
Family sources said multiple surgeries were performed on Sami, but his condition did not improve. A local arbitration initially provided Tk 15,000 for treatment, but the family later spent around Tk 800,000 in total. The child’s uncle also demanded justice for the incident.
Teknaf Model Police Station’s officer-in-charge Saiful Islam stated that an investigation would be launched if a formal complaint is received.

Courts in four districts of Bangladesh have sentenced nine people to death and two others to life imprisonment in separate rape and murder cases. In Jamalpur, seven men were given the death penalty for gang-raping a housewife, while one accused was acquitted. Hamas has decided to dissolve its executive body in Gaza, known as the Government Follow-Up Committee, according to officials who spoke to AFP. The committee had overseen Gaza’s administration for nearly two decades. This move is intended to enable a nonpartisan technocratic committee, composed of representatives from various Palestinian factions, to assume administrative responsibility for the territory.
A Hamas official, speaking anonymously, said that until the new National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) formally takes charge, an interim supervisor will be appointed by consensus to oversee the transition. The NCAG, comprising 15 specialists from different sectors, was established under a U.S.-brokered Hamas–Israel ceasefire agreement to manage Gaza’s reconstruction and daily governance.
The decision follows Hamas’s earlier agreement, in October, to transfer authority in Gaza to a technocratic government proposed by then U.S. President Donald Trump. The restructuring is expected to facilitate coordination among Palestinian groups and support post-war recovery efforts in the enclave.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed US Vice President JD Vance’s claim that America is Israel’s only strong ally. In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Netanyahu said the statement was inaccurate and emphasized that Israel has several powerful friends beyond the United States, naming India as a key example. He described India as a nation of 1.4 billion people offering Israel unprecedented support, which he said is visible across social media platforms.
Netanyahu added that while he respects the US vice president, he cannot agree with all his remarks. He also referred to US President Donald Trump as Israel’s “best friend ever.” The Israeli leader acknowledged that anti-Israel sentiment has become fashionable in some countries’ social media, yet noted that many of those nations’ leaders privately express support for his policies.
The interview comes amid ongoing tensions following a joint US-Israel attack on Iran in February that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and triggered a regional war. A temporary ceasefire now holds between the US and Iran, with Israel’s actions in Lebanon remaining a key obstacle to lasting peace.

Israel’s military is preparing to release around 10,000 reserve soldiers by the end of July due to a severe budget deficit, according to reports published Sunday in local media. Currently, about 60,000 reservists are on active duty, and the number may be reduced to 50,000. The move reflects significant financial pressure on the army, though a final decision has not yet been made and is expected within days.
Reports indicate that Israel’s defense spending has risen sharply, creating a major financial strain. The decision comes amid a dispute between the defense and finance ministries over the defense budget. The army argues that multiple regional conflicts require record-level funding, while the finance ministry warns that such increases would worsen the government’s deficit.
An interim compromise has reportedly been reached, allowing the army to receive additional funds on the condition that it reduces reliance on reserve forces and cuts operational expenses.
