A man named Jahangir Alam Talukdar, aged 35, was killed by lightning in Barhatta upazila of Netrakona on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in Borgaon village under Sahata Union. Jahangir, son of the late Abdur Rashid Talukdar of the same village, was struck by lightning while bringing cattle from a field near his home. Police in Fatullah, Narayanganj, have arrested Salauddin Ahmed, president of the Enayetnagar Union unit of the Awami League, in connection with a murder case related to the anti-discrimination movement. After a political change on August 5, he reportedly went into hiding but recently returned to assume the role of acting chairman of the union council.

Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Alam stated that Salauddin had been under surveillance since the fall of the previous government and was detained based on specific intelligence. Police operations against leaders and activists of related organizations are ongoing and will continue.

Dr. Mahamuda Mitu, leader of the Nagorik Party (NCP) and a member of parliament, told Deputy Speaker Kaysar Kamal that although he had said the parliament was not Shahbagh, she and her colleagues had risen from Shahbagh and stood there with its spirit. A teenage housewife named Maria Jahan Mim, aged 16, was reportedly killed and her body was later found hanging in Ramgati, Lakshmipur. Police in Narayanganj detained Khairul Islam Sajib, son of Narayanganj-3 Member of Parliament Azharul Islam Mannan, on Sunday afternoon in connection with several extortion-related allegations. Sajib, who also serves as the senior joint convener of the district Jubo Dal, was taken from his residence in the Bashundhara area and brought to the Narayanganj Superintendent of Police’s office for questioning. A small trader named Kamrul Hasan, aged 48, was killed after being hit by a pickup van in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi on Sunday morning. Kamrul Hasan was a resident of Yogisho village under Panchandar Union and used to sell various items from village to village. He was also known as a local BNP activist. Following the incident, his younger brother, Md. Jamal Uddin, filed a case with Tanore Police Station. Officer-in-Charge S.M. Masud Parvez stated that the complaint is under investigation and necessary legal steps will be taken.

The police investigation aims to determine the circumstances of the collision and identify those responsible for the fatal accident.

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 in Dhaka recorded the testimony of army member Imrul Kayes in a case concerning alleged crimes against humanity, including over a hundred enforced disappearances and killings during the Awami League government. Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, criticized the proposed national budget for 2026–27, saying it lacks direction on reducing inequality, resolving industrial and gas crises, reforming financial, administrative, and judicial systems, creating employment, and ensuring healthcare. Islami Chhatra Shibir has strongly condemned the killing of its Bonarpara Union president Saifullah in Gaibandha’s Saghata upazila, alleging that armed BNP activists carried out a brutal attack on Sunday afternoon.
