Police in Dhaka arrested a total of 86 people in separate operations conducted across the capital. The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (Motijheel Division) detained 58 drug addicts during a block raid near the TT Para railway area under Mugda Police Station. Additionally, Hazaribagh Police arrested 28 individuals accused of involvement in various crimes. The arrests took place on Sunday afternoon, April 26, 2026, and were confirmed by Deputy Police Commissioner N M Nasir Uddin, spokesperson for the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
After being presented before the Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court, the detainees received short-term sentences and were sent to prison. According to local sources, the man arrived in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and began shouting slogans such as “Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile” and “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu.” When police reached the spot, he quickly escaped in the same vehicle. The office had been closed and locked at the time of the incident.
Sudharam Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Touhidul Islam said the youth appeared to have mental health issues. Authorities are investigating the matter and will take legal action after reviewing the situation.
Man flees after chanting slogans before locked Awami League office in Noakhali
Three people were killed in separate lightning strikes in Khaliajuri upazila of Netrakona on Monday. The incidents occurred in the morning and noon of April 27, 2026. A fisherman named Abdul Motaleb, 55, from Maizpara union of Ishwarganj upazila in Mymensingh, died while fishing near the Dhanua River at the Jagannathpur ferry ghat. Later, a farmer named Monaem Khan died while drying paddy in front of his house in Satgaon village, and a farm laborer named Shubho Mondol from Sirajganj died while harvesting paddy in Krishnapur village.
Police confirmed the deaths and stated that inquest reports would be prepared before handing over the bodies to the families. The confirmation came from Hafizul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) of Netrakona. The lightning strikes occurred in open areas during regular agricultural and fishing activities.

The High Court has directed the Election Commission (EC) to accept the nomination papers of Nusrat Tabassum, a leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP), for the reserved women’s seat in the national parliament. Aiyub Ali, the fortieth accused, is the ward president of the Krishak Dal in Laujana village. The case stems from an incident last Friday evening when MP Mashum Mostafa’s car was attacked and vandalized at a filling station in Atkapara area. The MP was briefly confined before being rescued by police and administration. So far, twelve people have been arrested in the case, nine of whom are currently on bail.
