Supporters of BNP’s Ishraq Hossain have warned of a city-wide blockade if he is not immediately sworn in as mayor. Under the leadership of SM Reza Selim and Anisuzzaman, Demra BNP leaders staged a siege at Dhaka South City Corporation headquarters, demanding Ishraq’s formal appointment. They argued that an elected mayor is far more accountable and capable of improving city infrastructure than an unelected administrator. The leaders warned that if their demand is not met, further action will be taken from Demra, including cutting off road access between Dhaka and eastern districts.
