The Public Administration Reform Commission is considering a proposal to reduce the current 26 civil service cadres to six. Additionally, it might recommend removing the term “cadre” from civil service, extending the retirement age, and forming a permanent pay commission. Proposals could also include renaming the Deputy Commissioner (DC) to District Magistrate, and introducing measures to reduce harassment faced by the underprivileged when accessing services like land administration, city corporations, passports, birth and death certificates, trade licenses, and social safety nets.
