After crossing back into Bangladesh, they were detained by the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB). Subedar Basharul Islam of the BGB confirmed the incident and said preparations are underway to send a formal letter to the BSF to hold a flag meeting regarding the matter.

Since then, Hanif was missing and was found with injury marks on his body. According to police, Hanif along with four others crossed into the Indian border area but were chased by the BSF (Border Security Force). Four returned safely while one was detained by the BSF.
