A fire broke out at a shoe factory located on Agamasi Lane, Agha Sadek Road in Old Dhaka on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m., prompting three units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence to rush to the scene and begin efforts to control the blaze. The factory is housed in a seven-story building, and eyewitnesses along with fire service sources reported that the fire originated on the fourth floor.
Fire Service officer Talha Bil Jasim stated that three units were dispatched immediately after receiving the report and that work to bring the fire under control was ongoing. He confirmed that no casualties had been reported so far and said the cause of the fire would be determined after an investigation.
Traffic movement in the area was disrupted due to the incident, while law enforcement personnel and local residents assisted the fire service in their operations.

A job applicant was detained at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur after arriving to join work without taking any written, viva, or practical examination. The incident occurred on Monday, February 16, 2026, when Suja Mia, 32, from Sherpur’s Sreebordi upazila, came to join as a plumber. Officials discovered that his admit card contained the photo of another person named Milon Mia, who had taken all the exams on his behalf. Suja Mia claimed he did not know Milon and said he obtained the job through a man named Mahbub from his area in exchange for seven lakh taka. He was later handed over to police.
Following his arrest, Suja Mia’s brother-in-law, Sajal Mia, visited the BRRI headquarters, prompting discussions due to his home being near the BRRI director general’s village house. Sajal denied any connection to the case. Gazipur Metropolitan Police confirmed that a case is being processed and an investigation is underway to determine whether any internal collusion or broker network was involved.
Police stated that a full investigation is ongoing to uncover the entire recruitment fraud network.
Applicant arrested at BRRI for joining job without taking required exams
A 13-year-old schoolboy named Pradip Nag died after being hit by a battery-run autorickshaw in Madan municipality of Netrakona on Monday afternoon. Pradip, son of Sujan Nag, owner of Joy Ma Mistanno Bhandar in Jahangirpur Central Market, was a seventh-grade student at Jahangirpur Tahura Amin Pilot High School. The accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on the Madan-Kendua road, near his home, while he was on his way to his family’s shop. Locals rescued him and took him to the hospital, where duty doctor Dr. Nayan Ghosh declared him dead.
Neighbor Rupan Das said several accidents had previously occurred at the same spot and urged the authorities to install a speed breaker there. Madan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hasnat Zaman stated that they were aware of the incident and would take action upon receiving a complaint.
The repeated accidents at the location have prompted renewed calls from residents for road safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
Schoolboy dies after being hit by battery-run autorickshaw in Netrakona’s Madan
Malaysian immigration authorities in Terengganu arrested 226 undocumented foreign nationals, including 222 Bangladeshis, during a joint operation on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The operation, conducted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., involved 64 officers from the Immigration Department, National Registration Department, Manpower Department, and Construction Industry Development Board. A total of 316 foreigners were inspected, and 226 were detained for violating the Immigration Act 1959/63.
According to Terengganu Immigration Director Mohamad Yusri Mohamad, those arrested included three Indonesians and one Indian national. The charges involved lacking personal documents, overstaying visas, and visa misuse, which fall under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. The detainees have been transferred to the Ajil Immigration Detention Depot for legal processing.
Yusri added that between January and February 15, 2026, a total of 415 undocumented migrants were arrested in Terengganu, including nationals from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Thailand, Cambodia, India, and Nepal.

Police in Feni recovered parts of a stolen truck from the house of a local Jubo Dal leader on Monday, February 16, in Chharaitakandi village under Sonagazi upazila. The recovery followed the arrest of Md. Yunus alias Dalim, 40, from Dakshin Char Chandia village during a joint operation by EPZ and Sonagazi Model police stations. Based on Dalim’s information, police found the truck parts at the residence of Imam Hossain Probir, the member secretary of Sonagazi upazila Jubo Dal.
The truck had been reported stolen from Chattogram’s Patenga area on February 8, and its owner, Md. Harun, filed a case at the local EPZ police station on February 15. Following the recovery, Jubo Dal’s central office issued a press release signed by Assistant Office Secretary Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, announcing the expulsion of Imam Hossain Probir from the party for breaching organizational discipline.
Police confirmed that the recovered truck parts and the arrested suspect were transferred to the EPZ police station for further investigation.
Police recover stolen truck parts from Jubo Dal leader’s house in Feni
A Dhaka-bound intercity train, the 721 Mahanagar Express, derailed between Hasanpur and Nangalkot railway stations in Comilla on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at Khanna Para when the spring of the train’s ninth air-conditioned chair car broke, causing its front wheel to leave the track. Hundreds of passengers narrowly escaped injury, and no casualties were reported immediately after the derailment.
Nangalkot Railway Station Master Jamal Uddin confirmed that train movement on the up line between Hasanpur and Nangalkot was temporarily suspended following the derailment. He said a relief train from Laksam was on its way to carry out recovery operations. Authorities will investigate the cause of the accident and take necessary measures based on the findings.
Train operations in the affected section are expected to resume after the relief train completes the recovery work, according to the station master’s statement.
Dhaka-bound Mahanagar Express derails near Nangalkot; no casualties reported
A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer in Dhaka displayed remarkable bravery and professionalism by arresting a mugger red-handed in the Shantinagar area on Monday, February 16, 2026. The officer recovered 77,000 taka that had just been snatched from a pharmaceutical company’s area manager, Touhid Alamgir, who was traveling by rickshaw toward his home in East Goran.
According to the report, three muggers intercepted the victim near the CID’s Detective Training School building, threatening him with a knife before fleeing with the cash. Responding to the victim’s cries for help, CID Assistant Sub-Inspector (unarmed) Md. Monir Hossain chased and captured one suspect, identified as Md. Saiduzzaman Sohel, 52, while two others escaped. The recovered money was handed over to Paltan Police Station for legal action.
CID’s Special Superintendent (Media) Md. Jashim Uddin Khan confirmed that the detainee is a professional mugger and active member of an inter-district robbery and drugging gang, with at least six prior cases filed against him between 2012 and 2025.

A joint operation by the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued 15 people, including women, men, and children, who were being held for trafficking to Malaysia. The operation took place on Sunday, 15 February 2026, at Baharchhara in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the rescue on Monday, stating that the victims were confined in a warehouse owned by alleged trafficker Md. Abdul Ali.
According to intelligence sources, several organized trafficking groups had been luring Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens from different parts of the country with promises of better living conditions, high-paying jobs, and low-cost travel abroad. They planned to smuggle the victims to Malaysia by sea. During the raid, the traffickers fled before security forces could detain them.
The rescued individuals were later handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for legal procedures. The Coast Guard stated that similar operations will continue to prevent human trafficking in the region.

In Sunamganj’s Dharampasha upazila, a woman named Joybanu Akter, aged 60, lodged a written complaint on Sunday afternoon with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) against her 30-year-old son, Md. Wasim, accusing him of physical assault and issuing death threats. The incident occurred in Baulam village under Paikurati Union. According to the complaint and local residents, Wasim, who has long been addicted to drugs, demanded Tk 10,000 from his mother over the past two weeks. When she refused, he allegedly beat his mother, elder brother, and sister-in-law, and vandalized household items last Friday night.
Joybanu stated that her son has been using various drugs, including alcohol and cannabis, and has identified himself as a hijra for the past three years. She expressed fear for her family’s safety and sought justice through the UNO. UNO Jony Roy confirmed receiving the complaint and forwarded it to the officer-in-charge of Dharampasha Police Station for legal action. Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahid Ullah said the matter would be investigated and appropriate legal steps taken.
Authorities indicated that if Wasim is indeed addicted, his family should arrange medical treatment alongside legal proceedings.
Mother in Sunamganj files complaint against drug-addicted son for assault and threats
Police arrested former Gazipur City Corporation Ward 54 councillor Billal Hossain Molla, aged 45, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday night while he was reportedly attempting to travel to Malaysia. He was later taken to the Gazipur Detective Branch (DB) office on Monday afternoon. Molla, a resident of Auchpara Mollabari in Tongi West, is the son of the late Momin Uddin Molla and had been a candidate for the presidency of Gazipur Metropolitan Jubo League.
According to police, Molla is an accused in multiple cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement. Immigration police detained him at the airport’s departure area around 10:30 p.m. and informed Gazipur Metropolitan Police. Tongi West police subsequently took him into custody and, after completing legal formalities, handed him over to the Gazipur DB police. Gazipur Metropolitan Police (DB South) Officer-in-Charge Syed Mizanur Rahman confirmed that legal proceedings against Molla are underway.
Authorities indicated that further legal action will follow as investigations continue into the cases filed against him.
Former Gazipur councillor arrested at Dhaka airport while trying to flee to Malaysia
Two teenage girls, Muslima Akter (12) and Sultana (16), have been missing for ten days in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj. Both families filed separate general diaries with Muksudpur Police Station after the girls disappeared on February 6. Muslima, from Paschim Laukhanda village under Nonikhir Union, and Sultana, from Ragdi Union, were students of Khadijatul Kobra Women’s Madrasa and close friends.
According to family sources, Sultana called Muslima out of her home on February 6, saying they would go for a walk, but neither returned. Relatives confirmed that the girls have not visited any family members since then. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the local community.
Muksudpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun stated that general diaries have been filed and Assistant Sub-Inspector Khairul Islam is investigating the case. Legal procedures are ongoing.

Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka’s Shyampur and Mugda areas late on Monday, February 15. Police said Abdur Rahim, 46, was hit by an unidentified truck while crossing the road near Postogola Bridge in Shyampur. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died around 2:45 a.m. His body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
In another incident the same evening, Nayon Moni, 46, a garment worker, died after being struck by her staff bus in front of Mugda Hospital. Her husband said she had just stepped off the bus and was crossing the road when the accident occurred. Police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy at Dhaka Medical College morgue. The driver and the bus involved were later detained.
Both victims were from outside Dhaka—Rahim from Sirajganj and Nayon Moni from Shariatpur. Their families have since received the bodies after post-mortem examinations.

A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on Sony Rangs Electronics Limited Managing Director Ekram Hossain, his father Sachimi Ogawara Hossain, and brother Binash Hossain, who serves as the company’s Deputy Managing Director. The order was passed on Monday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the petition filed by ACC Deputy Assistant Director and investigating officer Md. Al Amin, the accused are suspected of illegally transferring approximately fifteen to twenty thousand crore taka abroad. A confidential inquiry reportedly revealed that the family holds extensive movable and immovable assets both in Bangladesh and overseas and were allegedly attempting to relocate those assets.
The court deemed the travel restriction necessary to prevent the transfer of assets and to preserve evidence related to the alleged offenses. The order was confirmed by court bench assistant Riaz Hossain.

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of land worth Tk 5.29 crore owned by Nasrin Islam, wife of NASA Group chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder and a director of EXIM Bank, in Cumilla. The order was issued on Monday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez. Court bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the information.
According to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), its assistant director Muhammad Shihab Salam filed the petition seeking confiscation of the property. The petition stated that Nasrin Islam allegedly abused her power to acquire assets worth Tk 20.26 crore beyond her known income through bribery and corruption. Investigators found that she was attempting to sell or transfer her movable and immovable assets before the case’s resolution.
The court ruled that the properties must be seized immediately under Section 14 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, and Rule 18 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Rules, 2007, to prevent potential loss to the state.

On Monday, anger erupted in Kashipur Union’s Narsingpur area when buyers, mostly women, realized they had been deceived after failing to receive promised goods. They protested and surrounded the leader’s house.
According to reports, Russell and his wife distributed around 300 cards across several localities, charging Tk 50 each. Buyers were told they could purchase Tk 1,725 worth of goods for Tk 1,285 monthly using the cards. Fatullah BNP president Shahidul Islam Titu clarified that although the 'Family Card' was mentioned in the party’s manifesto, no official program had begun, and he urged authorities to act against those involved. Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Executive Officer S.M. Faiz Uddin Ahmed said the matter would be investigated promptly.
Local women expressed frustration, saying they were misled into believing the cards were government-backed and were left waiting in vain for the promised goods.
