Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Germany’s ambassador in Tehran following controversial remarks made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Merz had publicly supported Israel’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, stating that Israel was "cleaning up a mess for all of us."

Iranian state media labeled the comments "ridiculous and disgraceful." Earlier this week, Iran also summoned Switzerland’s ambassador after he expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s call for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”

Bangladesh's National Security Advisor Dr. Khaleelur Rahman held a meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. Discussions covered a range of topics including the Rohingya crisis, ongoing trade negotiations, regional developments in South Asia, and Bangladesh's democratic progress. Landau praised Dr. Muhammad Yunus for his leadership and reiterated continued U.S. support for Bangladesh. Dr. Rahman later also met with Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Brendan Lynch to discuss mutual tariff agreements.

Bangladesh has declared its candidacy for Category 'C' membership in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council for the 2026–27 term. Shipping Advisor Brigadier M. Sakhawat Hossain sought support from Norway and other IMO member states during a meeting with Norwegian Ambassador Haakon Harald Gulbrandsen. The advisor highlighted Bangladesh's extensive network of rivers and seaports and their importance to the country’s economic development. The ambassador expressed a willingness to support Bangladesh’s bid.

In the meeting, Dr. Yunus also called for increased humanitarian assistance from Australia for the over one million Rohingya refugees currently sheltered in Bangladesh. He highlighted that a “July Charter” would be announced in the upcoming annual session, ensuring first-time voters the opportunity to cast their ballots in a free, festive, and peaceful environment.

The Australian High Commissioner, in turn, announced that her government will provide AUD 2 million to support the capacity-building efforts of Bangladesh’s Election Commission. She also reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to standing by Bangladesh in efforts to make Rohingya repatriation a reality.

During a phone call with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Turkey is prepared to play a constructive role in de-escalating tensions and reviving nuclear negotiations. Erdoğan emphasized Turkey’s commitment to regional peace and stability and said he is engaging with various world leaders to help prevent further conflict.

Amid intensified hostilities between Iran and Israel, the Chinese Embassy in Israel has urged its citizens to leave the country as soon as possible. In a statement on WeChat on Tuesday, the embassy emphasized that Chinese nationals should cross land borders and leave the region at their earliest convenience, prioritizing their safety. The embassy specifically advised traveling towards Jordan, noting that civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure are mounting as the conflict escalates.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said, “We urge all sides to act responsibly, prevent further instability in the region, and create favorable conditions for resolving the issues through dialogue and consultation.” Earlier on Sunday, another spokesperson stated that China is ready to play a constructive role in easing tensions.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Dhaka has strongly condemned Israel’s deadly assault on Iranian territory, which killed several senior military commanders, renowned scientists, and innocent civilians, including women and children. In a statement, the embassy said Israel’s aggression constitutes a blatant violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and is a direct military attack on Iran’s sovereignty. The embassy asserted that Iran retains the legitimate right to respond decisively under Article 51 of the UN Charter. It also called on the United Nations, Islamic countries, and member states of the Non-Aligned Movement to take effective action against the Israeli aggression.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has declared that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, stating that all diplomatic efforts to halt Tehran’s nuclear program have so far failed.
