The courtesy call at Army Headquarters included discussions on strengthening military cooperation between Bangladesh and the EU, as well as exploring opportunities for developing Bangladesh’s defense industry with European support.
Ambassador Miller praised the army’s significant contribution to maintaining law and order in the current national context.

The Bangladesh Army has launched an investigation into the disruption of rescue operations following the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet in Uttara’s Diabari area. According to an ISPR statement, several civilians, including children, were killed or injured in the incident. Although military and fire service personnel responded swiftly, large crowds of onlookers impeded the rescue efforts. Misunderstandings later arose between the army and the public. Fourteen soldiers involved in the operation are currently receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). The army has assured that appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for the disruption.

In a joint operation led by the Bangladesh Army in the Nikunja-2 area under Khilkhet Police Station, Md. Ismail Hossain Babu and his associate Sheikh Saiful Islam were caught red-handed with extorted money. The operation was conducted on Saturday night. Earlier that afternoon, six others were detained on similar extortion charges from the Uttara Sluice Gate area. The Army has reiterated its commitment to curbing criminal activities and urged the public to come forward with information.

The Armed Forces are working across Bangladesh to maintain law and order during the ongoing political unrest, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release. From May 22 to May 28, joint forces conducted nationwide raids, arresting 390 individuals involved in various criminal activities, including murder, arms possession, drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, and gang violence. Several illegal weapons were also seized during the operations.

The Army Chief expressed gratitude to all federations and ministries involved. He shared hope for the successful implementation of the proposed Olympic Complex in Trishal, Mymensingh, with construction of the indoor stadium expected to begin in June. The committee also made decisions regarding participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, 14th South Asian Games, and hosting the 10th Bangladesh Games.

Under the directive of the Principal Advisor, the Bangladesh Armed Forces have successfully completed a coordinated humanitarian assistance mission for earthquake victims in Myanmar. Overseen by the Armed Forces Division, the operation involved the distribution of relief, rescue activities, and medical support.
To honor the participating rescue and medical teams, a special reception was held on Wednesday at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment. Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hasan, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, presented commemorative tokens to each team member. The event was attended by senior officials from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, various ministries, and Myanmar’s military, naval, and air attachés based in Dhaka.

Seized items included 21 illegal firearms, 295 rounds of ammunition, various local weapons, stolen mobile phones, passports, laptops, counterfeit currency, foreign currency, and a significant amount of narcotics and cash. These actions are part of a broader initiative to restore stability in light of recent unrest.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Sunday that a Bangladeshi medical team has treated 457 patients in Myanmar following the recent earthquake, including 15 complex surgeries. According to the statement, the team provided medical services at Naypyidaw’s Zabuthiri Township Hospital (50 beds), a 100-bed hospital, and a 1,000-bed general hospital. On Sunday alone, 50 patients received medical attention, and three major surgeries were successfully conducted.
On Saturday, Myanmar’s Deputy Prime Minister requested assistance from the Bangladeshi rescue team, which was then deployed to conduct operations at the collapsed Foreign Ministry building in Naypyidaw.
