U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a new executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, bringing the total tariff to 50%. The decision is reportedly in response to India's continued direct and indirect import of Russian oil.

This additional tariff adds to a previously announced 25% duty, doubling the pressure on India. Trump had earlier warned of harsher economic penalties if President Putin failed to take meaningful steps toward ending the war in Ukraine. The new tariffs are expected to strain U.S.-India relations further.

The development comes shortly after reports from Indian government sources indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to visit China later this month—his first visit in nearly seven years.

A massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s eastern coast on July 30, prompting widespread tsunami alerts. Satellite images cited by The New York Times reveal damage to a floating nuclear submarine base at Rybachiy in the Kamchatka Peninsula. Malaysia's Immigration Department has detained 306 Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly abusing their work permits. The arrests were made during a raid at a factory on Wednesday.

Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, Director-General of Immigration, stated that documents of 749 individuals were inspected during the operation. Of them, 307 were found violating immigration laws, including misuse of sector-specific permits, working at unauthorized locations, holding expired permits, or lacking valid travel documents. The detained individuals are aged between 20 and 40 and include one Nepali national in addition to the 306 Bangladeshis.

A tragic incident at Kuwait's Mina Abdullah Port has claimed the lives of three migrant workers after a water tank exploded during a chemical cleaning operation. The explosion occurred while the workers were using chemical substances to clean the inside of the tank.

According to Gulf News, the blast may have been triggered by a chemical reaction intensified by the extreme heat currently affecting the region. All three victims were inside the tank at the time of the explosion, leaving no chance for rescue.

Emergency responders, including police, ambulance services, and forensic teams, arrived at the scene promptly following the explosion.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether proper safety protocols were followed during the operation. The incident has sparked renewed concerns about worker safety, especially regarding the training and protective equipment provided to migrant laborers performing high-risk tasks.

A pre-election assessment team from the European Union is scheduled to visit Dhaka on September 18 ahead of Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary elections. The team will include three international and four local observers and will complete its mission by October 7. Based on the team's findings, the EU will decide whether to deploy a full election observation mission. During the visit, they will meet with the Election Commission, political parties, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.

Since August 1, the Hafeezzi Charitable Society of Bangladesh, a government-registered NGO, has been providing food, medical supplies, and clean water to four government hospitals in Gaza. A returning expatriate from Oman, Bahar Uddin, was involved in a tragic accident in Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila when a microbus carrying his family veered off the road and plunged into a canal. Despite repeated warnings from passengers about the driver’s drowsiness, he reportedly assured them he could continue driving. Sadly, the vehicle lost control and fell into the canal, killing seven family members, including a child. Several passengers escaped, but others were trapped inside and died on the spot.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – British multinational oil and gas company BP has announced the discovery of the largest oil and gas field off the Brazilian coast in the past 25 years. Located 404 kilometers from Rio de Janeiro and 2,372 meters below sea level, this marks BP’s tenth discovery this year.

Following the announcement, BP’s shares rose by over 1% on the London Stock Exchange. The company plans to drill around 40 wells globally over the next three years, including up to 15 in 2025 alone. BP has set an ambitious target of producing between 2.3 and 2.5 million barrels of oil per day by 2030.

Dhaka, Bangladesh – Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has pledged to continue reforming Bangladesh’s financial sector as long as the current administration remains in power. Chattogram, Bangladesh – Chattogram Superintendent of Police (SP) Saiful Islam Santu has warned of a conspiracy to divide the unity formed in July’s uprising. Speaking at an event honoring families of the martyrs and injured, he said, “There’s an ongoing plot to break your unity, and you’re not even noticing it. Tell the conspirators – ‘She won’t return, he won’t smile again.’”

SP Saiful added that efforts to sow discord are being spread via Facebook and YouTube, labeling it part of a broader cyber warfare strategy. “They are preparing for a comeback. If you do not remain united, no one can protect you – not even us in law enforcement,” he cautioned.

Arizona, USA – A medical aircraft crashed near Chinle Airport in Arizona on Tuesday, claiming the lives of all four people on board. The dual-propeller aircraft was en route to pick up a patient from a nearby hospital when it went down shortly after takeoff. The plane burst into flames, killing everyone inside.

The aircraft was typically used for transporting patients and medical equipment. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash, but a thorough investigation is currently underway.
