A clash over cattle smuggling in Ramu, Cox's Bazar, on Monday afternoon resulted in the death of Md. Nabi (48), son of the late Ali Akbar from Pashchim Goniakata. Local sources reported that a dispute over cattle smuggling escalated into gunfire between Md. Nabi and his cousins—Md. Hasan, Hossain, Sani, and Hanif. Md. Nabi was shot dead on the spot by his rivals.

In a brutal incident on Eid day, five family members, including the father, uncle, and cousin of a schoolgirl, were attacked with sharp weapons inside their home in Bhanga, Faridpur. The attackers, enraged by the family’s protest against eve-teasing, also vandalized the house and looted valuables.

A week before the attack, a 17-year-old SSC candidate from Algi Union was harassed by three local youths—Siam Molla (19), Rifat Molla (20), and Sakib Molla (22)—while on her way to private tutoring. When the girl reported the incident to her parents, they confronted the harassers’ families.

This enraged the accused, who later launched a two-phase attack on the girl’s family, leaving five members injured.

The death toll from the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has surpassed 2,000, with over 3,400 injured and more than 200 people still missing. In response to the disaster, the government has declared a seven-day national mourning period starting Monday, during which the national flag will be flown at half-mast.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, the death toll has risen to 19, with 75 individuals still unaccounted for. On Monday, rescue teams in Mandalay pulled four people alive from the rubble, including a pregnant woman and a child. A Chinese rescue team also successfully saved an individual using a thermal blanket.

Myanmar’s ongoing civil war has made it difficult to deliver aid to many affected areas. Rebel groups have accused the military of continuing airstrikes even after the earthquake, further exacerbating the crisis.

A long-standing land dispute in Bahubal, Habiganj, led to a violent clash after Eid prayers, leaving ten people—including women—injured. Local elders had attempted multiple reconciliations between the families involved, but tensions flared again over a minor disagreement. The police have arrested four individuals connected to the incident.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that if the US, under Donald Trump’s threats, launched an attack on Iran, the country would retaliate forcefully. Speaking at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla Mosque during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, he stated, "The hostility from the US and Israel has always existed. They threaten us, but we do not consider it a strong possibility." His remarks came after Trump renewed his threat that Iran would face bombing unless it agreed to a new nuclear deal. An imam in Taltoli, Barguna, was attacked with a large knife during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. Worshippers apprehended the assailant, Masum, and handed him over to the police. Masum claimed he sought revenge for a past incident involving his girlfriend, whom he had entrusted to a friend, only for her to be allegedly dishonored. Determined to retaliate, he had a knife custom-made for the attack. However, the targeted individual, Imam Imran Hossain, revealed that Masum had a history of theft and bore a grudge after being caught stealing a mobile phone during his madrasa days.

Dr. Asif Nazrul, legal adviser to the interim government, shared a photo of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia with her son Tarique Rahman, daughter-in-law Zubaida Rahman, and granddaughter Zaima Rahman. The picture, posted on his Facebook profile, showed them all smiling. In his caption, Nazrul wrote, “Allah is the greatest judge. The oppressors have been cast aside, while the oppressed find peace.”

To make Eid more festive, Dhaka North City Corporation organized an Eid procession, reviving a 400-year-old tradition. The colorful parade included musical bands, decorated elephants, horse-drawn carriages, and placards depicting the Mughal era’s rich history. The procession started at 9:00 AM from the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center, passed through Agargaon and Khamarbari, and concluded at Manik Mia Avenue. A cultural program was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. DNCC also organized a two-day Eid fair at the China Friendship Center, featuring around 200 stalls.

An eight-year-old child, Mohammad Rafi, lost his life in a fireworks accident in Patuakhali on Sunday night. In a separate incident, two teenage cousins, Mohammad Belal Talukdar (16) and Mohammad Rabbi (15), sustained severe injuries, with parts of their hands being severed. Rafi’s uncle, Abul Bashar, described the tragic moment when a firework exploded with excessive force, sending debris into Rafi’s throat, causing massive bleeding and unconsciousness. He was later declared dead by doctors. The two injured teenagers are currently receiving medical treatment.

Myanmar’s junta chief, Min Aung Hlaing, announced on Sunday that at least 1,700 people have died, and over 3,500 have been injured due to the earthquake. Additionally, 300 people remain missing, and the death toll is expected to rise. Rescue operations are ongoing, but progress is slow as most efforts rely on local residents who lack proper equipment. Many rescuers are forced to clear rubble with their bare hands due to a shortage of heavy machinery. Police recovered 61 stolen laptops and several mobile phones from a house in Pallabi on Sunday. Two individuals, Mahathir Mohammad Khan Tamal (24) and Md. Tofayel Ahmed (26), were arrested in connection with the stolen items. Authorities stated that further investigation is underway to dismantle the criminal network.

Thirteen passengers were sent to jail by a court for their involvement in an attack, vandalism, and robbery aboard the MV Royal Cruise-2, en route from Dhaka to Barguna. The Betagi Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court issued the ruling on Sunday evening. The police had detained 18 individuals earlier that day. The ship’s supervisor later filed a case against 13 identified suspects and 25-26 unidentified persons. Protests erupted outside Betagi police station demanding the release of the detainees.

He remarked that with the fall of fascism, this year’s Eid comes with a newfound sense of relief. He urged those who are financially capable to share their joy with underprivileged individuals. Additionally, he prayed for the prosperity and peace of Bangladesh and the Muslim Ummah.

Religious Affairs Adviser A.F.M. Khalid has announced that President Md. Shahabuddin will offer Eid prayers at Bangabhaban instead of the National Eidgah. However, the Chief Adviser will join the main Eid congregation at the National Eidgah. The primary Eid prayer session is scheduled for 8:30 AM. In case of inclement weather, the prayer will be held at Baitul Mukarram Mosque at 9:00 AM. This marks a deviation from tradition, as the President typically joins the congregation at the National Eidgah.

Authorities conducted a massive eviction drive in Kaliakoir, Gazipur, demolishing over 100 illegal structures built on forest land. The operation took place a day before Eid, prompting discontent among affected residents. The Forest Department had previously issued warnings and public announcements instructing squatters to vacate, but as they refused to comply, bulldozers were deployed to clear the encroachments. While some residents resisted, officials stated that legal action would be taken against those attempting to reclaim the land.
