Stephen Miller, former Deputy Chief of Staff to Donald Trump, has accused India of indirectly supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine by purchasing large quantities of Russian oil.

“People will be shocked to learn that India is now on par with China in buying Russian oil,” said Miller. According to NDTV, the Trump administration has leveled three primary allegations against India: buying Russian oil, imposing high tariffs on U.S. goods, and manipulating the U.S. immigration system.

Miller noted that although Trump has maintained good relations with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, future actions will be guided by pragmatism. He added that diplomatic and financial measures remain open to ensure Russia is denied the funds to continue its aggression.

India Accused of Funding Russia's War Through Oil Purchases

The Bangladesh Navy has detained 14 Indian fishermen and seized a trawler named FB Parmita for illegally entering Bangladesh’s territorial waters in the Bay of Bengal and fishing without authorization.

The vessel was captured near the deep sea buoy zone off the Sundarbans coast by the warship BNS Bishkhali. The detained fishermen were brought to Mongla Naval Base on Sunday afternoon. The catch, which includes a large quantity of hilsa and other marine fish, will be auctioned off. The fishermen and the trawler will be handed over to Mongla police. This follows a similar incident on July 14, when 34 Indian fishermen aboard two trawlers were arrested in the same area.

Russia’s Krasheninnikov volcano, located in the Kamchatka Peninsula, has erupted for the first time in over 500 years. Experts believe a recent powerful earthquake may have triggered the eruption.

The volcano emitted an ash plume reaching 6 kilometers into the sky. Although the eruption currently poses no direct threat to populated areas, a subsequent earthquake in the region led authorities to issue tsunami warnings for three nearby zones.

A portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hanging in the office of Sonarghop Ramesh Chandra Government Primary School in Pirojpur has ignited political controversy. Local BNP leaders allege that displaying the image is an attempt at political influence. Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, images of Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujib have been removed from most institutions in Nazirpur Upazila—except this school.
Headteacher Shamima Yasmin defended the portrait, saying, “My father was a freedom fighter. Bangabandhu is the Father of the Nation. We love and respect him. The question of removing his portrait does not arise.” Local administration confirmed there's no official directive to remove such portraits, though changes are being made in line with the political climate. Authorities indicated Yasmin would be served a show-cause notice.

Despite being peak hilsa season (June–October), fishermen in Bhola are struggling to catch an adequate number of the prized fish in the Meghna and Tetulia rivers. With over 200,000 fishermen facing financial hardship, locals recently organized special prayers (Khatme Yunus and Doa-Munajat) along the Meghna River, hoping for divine intervention. Sixty Islamic scholars participated in the event, led by religious leader Pir Maulana Muhibullah.
District Fisheries Officer Biswajit Kumar Deb attributed the decline in hilsa to climate change and underwater siltation that has disrupted natural breeding routes. He emphasized that resolving these issues could help restore fish populations.
