BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held a courtesy meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh, Tracy Ann Jacobson, at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Sunday. Also present were BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and International Affairs Committee member Shama Obaid. The meeting comes amid heightened diplomatic engagements ahead of the next election cycle.

The BNP has filed a legal case naming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with Chief Election Commissioners and other officials involved in the 10th, 11th, and 12th parliamentary elections. The case, submitted by Md. Salah Uddin Khan at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, also includes unidentified individuals. Prior to filing, a BNP delegation, led by Khan, submitted a formal petition to Chief Election Commissioner M.M. Nasir Uddin, endorsed by the party’s Secretary General.

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed has blamed successive governments for fostering a system that discourages intellectual growth, leading to a surge in brain drain. Speaking at an education-focused event, he stated, “The tendency to govern by sidelining merit has directly contributed to the country’s intellectual exodus.” He pledged that under BNP rule, education and research will receive top priority. “Improving the academic environment and political culture is vital to retaining talent,” he added, calling for coordinated efforts among educators, students, and student organizations to strengthen the nation’s educational foundations.

The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the deadline for registering new political parties expires today (Sunday) at 5 PM.
So far, around 100 parties have applied, according to EC officials.
The EC previously extended the deadline by 1.5 months following requests from several parties, including the NCP.
To qualify, parties must have a central committee, representation in one-third of districts, and at least 100 upazila-level committees. Previous electoral performance or parliamentary representation may also be considered.

A high-level BNP delegation, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will depart for China tonight at the invitation of the Chinese Communist Party.
The nine-member team includes senior BNP leaders such as Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Selima Rahman, and others.
BNP Media Cell's Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the visit and stated that the team will engage in political and strategic dialogue with Chinese counterparts.

BNP Joint Convener of Dhaka North, SM Jahangir, distributed leaflets in Khilkhet on Saturday, promoting the 31-point state reform proposal announced by Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Jahangir said the BNP envisions a just, inclusive Bangladesh and pledged that if elected, the country would be governed under the proposed framework.
He and local activists engaged with residents, shopkeepers, pedestrians, and rickshaw-pullers, sharing greetings on behalf of party chairperson Khaleda Zia and distributing the reform plan.

Abdul Hannan Masud, leader of the Nationalist Citizens' Party (NCP), declared that the 2024 mass uprising in Bangladesh reflects the public’s rejection of dynastic politics.

“This country has not been leased out to any family. A few families will not be allowed to rule or exploit the nation,”
he stated during a public address.
Masud further criticized the current government, which assumed power after the uprising, for lacking independence and bowing to oppressive forces.
“The DSCC has been hijacked by political interests, and once again, the 'might is right' politics is being reimposed. If we don’t resist now, we may lose our right to vote in the next election,”
he warned.

BNP leader Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain cautioned the government against politicizing the martyrs of the July-August uprisings, comparing it to the alleged politicization of freedom fighters by the ruling Awami League. He said the martyrs fought for democracy and belong to the nation, not any single party. Dr. Zahid also criticized the government for failing to ensure a fair national election, urging immediate reforms to the judiciary, administration, and election commission. “The people entrusted you after August 5 to restore democratic ownership,” he said.

BNP leader Aminul Haque has called for fair distribution of shops among affected traders at Muslim Bazar, urging that allocations be revoked from individuals allegedly linked to the ruling Awami League and given to legitimate victims.

Speaking at a meeting of the market committee, Haque claimed, “Those responsible for harming genuine traders with the support of pro-government collaborators must have their shop allocations cancelled. These should be redistributed fairly to actual stakeholders.”

He further added, “There will be no place for associates of the authoritarian Awami regime. Shops occupied through unjust means must be reclaimed. The BNP does not support wrongdoing.”

Haque also addressed broader grievances, stating, “Over the past 17 years, people across the country have suffered oppression. If the BNP returns to power, we will ensure justice and rule of law without political interference.”

The BNP is preparing to file lawsuits against former chief election commissioners and their colleagues who oversaw three controversial national elections.

According to party sources, BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed will visit the Election Commission office on Sunday morning to deliver an official letter signed by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to the current Chief Election Commissioner.

Following that, Salahuddin is expected to file a case at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The case documents will bear Fakhrul’s signature and will name the former election officials as accused parties in connection with their roles in allegedly rigged elections.

BNP Vice Chairman Asaduzzaman Ripon expressed concerns that the Consensus Commission, created for political reforms, is causing divisions among parties by taking on unnecessary agendas. Speaking at a BNP membership drive event in Faridpur, he criticized the slow pace of reforms despite public demand and urged vigilance against Awami League infiltrators in BNP ranks. Other leaders highlighted the importance of involving youth in the party to strengthen BNP from grassroots to leadership levels.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has lauded the performance of the interim government, stating it has already undertaken commendable initiatives and is setting a promising direction for the country.

"We believe that all political forces who were part of the anti-fascist movement should now come together in support of this government," Fakhrul said at a recent event.

He claimed that the people's movement has seen initial success. "We have been able to inspire people with the vision of a democratic Bangladesh. But this vision cannot be fulfilled within the current state structure," he added.

To that end, BNP has proposed a 31-point reform plan, developed through discussions with various stakeholders. Fakhrul also referred to a recent meeting between BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman and the interim government's chief advisor as a source of encouragement. "We have reached consensus on several key issues. For areas where agreement is still pending, we will revisit those after the elections," he stated.

The Election Commission (EC) is accelerating its preparations for Bangladesh’s 13th national election, expected in April 2026. Activities include updating the voter list, redrawing constituency boundaries, training officials, and procuring election materials. The EC has finalized the draft code of conduct and is awaiting recommendations on electoral reforms. New party registration closes on June 22. Officials state that all preparations are moving ahead steadily, and the schedule will be announced in due time, based on government decisions.
